Hotel con colazione inclusa a Monte Gordo

The GOOD: all the staff were welcoming, professional & accommodating; particularly the bar & kitchen staff. The pool area was clean and welcoming. The BAD: one of the reasons we chose this property was the ‘ free parking’ - which turned out to be an issue. When we arrived and were unable to locate any available parking and advised the front desk where we parked (in a parking lot behind the building across the street) - we were told - “not a problem” - until we were ticketed. Then we became aware there were only a limited amount of CASABLANCA parking spots - which were all full - we advised the front desk staff a lot of the vehicles didn’t have the hotel parking sticker…they didn’t appear to care as did not act on the vehicles parked there without hotel stickers…. The bathroom had ants on the floor & counter - we then kept our supplies in the sink which until then didn’t have ants - and then they invaded the sink. A few times I woke up to ants crawling on me. The air conditioner would often make clunking sounds and then proceed to shout out chunks of ice in the room…. The bed - we’ve never experienced such a hard mattress… The UGLY Probably because if the moisture from the AC unit on the balcony, mold was in the corners of the balcony… We initially thought about vacating- even if it meant losing our $ we paid upfront for the 3 nights - however there was extremely limited availability in the vicinity and there appeared to be parking issues with those properties and we’d take a chance on those being an improvement - so we endured and chalked it up to ‘ adventures in travel’

Stando qui per ora e sì l'hotel è un po' datato, ma è magnifico, sicuramente meglio di 3 stelle. L'anno scorso abbiamo soggiornato nel 4 stelle Alcazar Hotel, che è vicino, ma è chiuso quest'anno, che ci ha portato a scegliere Hotel Vasco da Gama. Questo hotel è molto meglio; posizione, cibo, personale, letti, asciugamani, letti, piscina e letti solari tutti eccellenti. Non c'è una grande scelta per cena, ma ciò che c'è è eccellente, che mi rende difficile scegliere quello che avere! Anche i colazione sono grandi. Purtroppo andremo a casa domani, ma saremo certamente tornati, già in cerca di un libro per l'anno prossimo.

Went for 4 days with my daughter, first impressions wasn’t great, looked very basic, the reception area looked basic, and not as knew compared to the photos. The hallway to the rooms were very basic like we were in a 2 star hotel. The room itself had everything you needed but again the decor very basic, the floor and painting of the walls looked cheap. The hairdryer on the wall in the bathroom wasn’t strong enough to dry ur hair. Definitely shouldn’t be a 4 star hotel as I have stayed in a lot better 3 star hotels, Ive never stayed in a 3 star hotel worse than this. Not many staff could speak English, struggled to order at the bar as no one could speak English. The food was awful, not much choice and not very nice. Do not include breakfast or dinner in the booking as cheaper and nicer to eat out. Breakfast was streaked smoky bacon, fried egg, scrambled egg, boiled egg, cereal, fruit, yogurt or meat. It definitely needed a different choice than just serving different kind of eggs, definitely needed to serve beans or plum tomatoes. We just had chips for tea but they did also have chicken casserole. The games room is in the same room as the indoor pool and also in the centre of everything so it felt everyone was looking at you, me and my daughter didn’t feel comfortable using the swimming pool with men drinking playing pool, and other people sitting in the same room drinking alcohol, it was too open. The swimming pool was not heated, when I asked reception if it was going to be heated as it says online she replied it’s never heated. We did try to get in but it was that cold we had to get out. They had two pool tables but only one working. No entertainment, no outdoor pool, nothing for the kids to do. Nothing to do in the local area, Other family’s we met said the same thing. There was places to eat and could walk 5 mins to the beach which was massive and lovely but the beach was the only attraction. I asked if there was anything to do but they said no just the beach, they said they don’t have tour busses or anything in monte gordo all there is to do is eat sleep go on the beach. Not many people speak English in the local area. Overall I wouldn’t recommend the hotel or monte gordo.

Hotel di base, camere belle e pulite, letto fatto ogni giorno. Il personale non particolarmente amichevole, cibo di base e stanco è uscito per la maggior parte dei giorni. Bello centrale per quello che volevamo, era un posto per dormire. Spiaggia solo circa 5/10 minuto di cammino che è bella.

Villa Real e Monte Gordo sono due destinazioni interessanti per praticare sport (correre, bicicletta, golf, ecc.) e questo hotel ha le caratteristiche idonee per questo. Situazione vicino alle strutture sportive, camere preparate per un buon riposo e colazione con opzioni sani, di qualità e adatte per gli sportivi.

L'hotel è convenientemente situato vicino alla spiaggia e al centro della città. Molto pulito e ben gestito. La stanza era buona e pulita ogni giorno. La piscina è buona anche. Il colazione era fresco e ben conservato. Il personale del colazione era sorprendente - come il fine settimana era una vacanza bancaria - correvano in giro come le dervighe di vite, rifornendo cibo, tavoli di pulizia, ecc. Anche il personale di ricezione era utile. One point- no bottle of water in the refrigerator on arrival- I expect that after a long journey. Yes I'd recommend it

A mio parere, il meglio era la colazione. Ci hanno cambiato la stanza dicendo che era superiore, ma quella che avevamo riservato era riformulata e con doccia, e quella che ci hanno dato no. E anche se ci siamo abbassati e abbiamo spiegato che la riserviamo per la difficoltà di non poter usare il bagno, ma dicevano che non avevano un altro, quindi un grande punto negativo. E per quanto riguarda le strutture, dire che hanno piscina esterna, interno ...(questo è parte del spa che si deve pagare e non lo dice in nessun luogo, ma quando si arriva. Quando lo mettete dentro le strutture come l'esterno e non ha alcun costo, Ci hanno cercato di convincere che il sito dell'hotel lo diceva, ma tutti abbiamo verificato che non era vero. Dovrebbero mettere che porta costi (come altre parti dell'hotel o attività) e non catturare clienti ottenendo cose del genere.

We spent 6 nights at this hotel which is very close to the beach. Food was varied and excellent quality with a different theme every day. Staff friendly and helpful, spotless rooms which were cleaned every day. Rooftop pool is small and not really big enough for a swim, but sits in a covered area so you can use it whatever the weather. Easy walking distance to the next town (Vila Real de San Antonio) where you can take a ferry to Ayamonte in Spain for €2.50pp

The Calema is situated on a backstreet just a few minutes from the beach. Initial impressions are good. The public areas are clean and reasonably well maintained. The gym seemed busy but the pool was totally unused. My room was clean and consisted of a small bedroom and bathroom with a larger kichenette and living area with a balcony. The kitchen equipment was sticky, unsurprising given that neither washing up liquid or tea towels were provided, with a random selection of cups and plates. My friends in other rooms fared better or worse suggesting poor management of the cleaning team. The single beds are rock hard and very narrow, but I slept well. Unfortunately a dead bird appeared on my balcony halfway through my stay which I reported four times on successive day, but it was still there on departure. The restaurant was poor. Cold breakfast options only and limited choices. The evening buffet was even worse with no vegetarian options or even labelling to tell you what you might be eating. After the first night we realised that we needed to eat at the start of the stated period as the food soon cooled and nothing was topped up. Vegetables were either cooked to death or missing altogether. For example, one night a single melon was put out along with another item, when they ran out quickly (before we got to that stage) a few small bowls of red jelly (of indeterminate flavour) were put out. An odd man also seemed to be hanging around glaring at people (we were told that he was the owner but he did no obvious work). Most days he seemed to be in the lounge with his phone loudly on speaker either shouting into it or watching something, making it impossible to have a quiet drink in the bar. One evening he hosted some sort of family meal after which one of the children was given the key to the piano. She then proceeded to play very badly and loudly. We complained to the man and he just shrugged. We left along with our fellow guests. So in summary, the Calema could be a good hotel but it needs some management attention, a decent food offering and for the owner to respect that we are paying guests and that the public areas are not an extension of his living room.
