Mahoora - Udawalawe by Eco Team

I can’t recommend this place enough! I am a solo 26 year old female traveller and Solomon instantly put me at ease after a terrible journey (weather, motion sickness, loss of bank card etc!). Solomon is kind, funny and very wise about all the animals. The staff go above and beyond to make you feel at home. I didn’t realise a camping experience could be so luxurious. The tents feel like something from Harry Potter and I fell asleep to the sound of rain. The dinner was excellent and even the wine! I had the best nights sleep in Sri Lanka so far. And then there was the safari… no words!! We saw so many elephants, of different ages, and a big male one too. We also saw crocs, lots of birds including eagles, water buffalo, spotted deer, wild boar. As a vet by profession I was conscious of some safari experiences not being so ethical but we stuck to the dirt tracks and let the animals pass as they pleased, so they were never harassed. I would highly recommend doing the 6am safari to see the most wildlife.

We paid 400$ for a tent with running water, toilet and shower but there was no water! The staff kept telling us that the monkeys toyed with the pumps . Not true the well was dry and the pumps were not working! Just tell us the truth! That being said the food was good, the staff tried hard. The tour was great. Don’t stay there because there are other places to stay in a tent!

It was quite an experience sleeping under canvas on the edge of Udawalwe National Park. The tents were hot although there were fans circulating the air. The elite tents were nicely secluded from each other and furnished like the photos. The evening dinner was good and the stars above were brilliant. The safari was good although the terrain was extremely uneven not to be attempted if you have a bad back or neck. We saw 32 elephants, many birds, deer, water buffalo and crocodiles. It was expensive but worth it.

Way over priced, the water in our bathroom did not work for the two days we were there. The staff tried hard but the accommodations are not aligned with the price. I don’t recommend staying here. Tent was hot even with the fans, tough to sleep. Again for a $400 price point and called VIP at the very least the water should work.

The staff at Mahoora went above and beyond to make sure our family had the best stay possible. Solomon was a wonderful guide and helped us find over 30 elephants at Udawalawe, the food was amazing, and the night in the tent was surprisingly comfortable. Great for kids, great for elephants and just a wonderful time overall.

The experience was great from the accomodation, the team working there and the food! Solomon was amazing to have as our naturist for the safari, he knows a lot and was great to learn from! I would definitely recomend for anyone to experience camping in a more accomodated setting!

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Mahoora Tented Safari Camp Udawalawe. The staff were excellent, attentive but not intrusive and they took care of us exceptionally well and always with a happy smile. Breakfast and lunch were served amongst the trees. Dinner was also amongst the trees with a camp fire. The food was absolutely delicious and the presentation of the meals was fabulous. One certainly won’t go hungry as there as there was too much food, however too good to leave on the plate and I am sure we left heavier than we arrived. Our tent was spacious and included a lounge room, bedroom and ensuite so we were very comfortable during our stay. Whilst there is no air conditioning we slept well with the large fans provided. The main reason to stay here is to go on safari in Udawalawe National Park. We love being out in the bush and seeing what nature will provide, large and small, around each and every corner. We were lucky to have Mr. Solomon as our naturalist on board our exclusive jeep for our 4 safaris. His knowledge is exceptional with a passion for wildlife to match. We learnt so much from Mr. Solomon, not just about wildlife but about Sri Lanka. Mr. Solomon is also the camp manager so he is a very busy man but never to busy to stop for chat when in camp. A truly memorable stay and we were sad to leave, however we will have the memories forever. Thank you Mr. Solomon, staff and Mahoora Tented Safari Camp Udawalawe for a wonderful stay.

The service and safaris were excellent. We enjoyed everything. Food was delicious, especially at night around the campfire. We had a nice double-room tent that was spacious, and clean and even had a safe for our valuables. The bed was also comfortable. We even had a foot bath after each safari. Tea time was enjoyable while visiting staff and fellow travelers. Overall, a wonderful experience.

Mahoora safari was an incredible experience. The safari we took with Solomon was the best I’ve ever had - he was knowledgable, passionate, and went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed it as much as possible. We saw a lot of elephants in an incredible location. The lodgings were really well put together for a tented camp - the bathrooms and beds were of very high quality. We had a few visitors in the evening - but nothing you wouldn’t expect from a tent in the jungle. The food was excellent throughout, lunch, breakfast and dinner, with really generous portions. Overall would highly recommend both the safari and the venue, and if you were choosing only one wildlife trip in Sri Lanka, this should be it.
