The Diplomat Boutique Hotel

The perfect stay in Merida. We had such a wonderful time at The Diplomat hotel I don’t even know where to start. The staff is incredible. Hospitable, warm, welcoming and helpful. Our experience felt personalized and curated thanks to the staff. Before we arrived Sara helped arrange airport transfers, suggested tours and offered restaurant recommendations. The hotel itself is gorgeous and comfortable. The pool, the margaritas and the breakfast were all spectacular. My husband and I can’t wait to return.

Staying at the Diplomat was the most incredible experience for us. We were welcomed and greeted by the extremely friendly owner/operators Neil and Sara who lavished us with margaritas, snacks and great vibes. A staff member gave helpful advice about the restaurant where we were to have dinner. Our poolside suite was stunning, containing an excellent expresso machine, comfortable bed and delicious smelling soaps. The design, ambience and hospitality of the entire hotel made us wish we had more time to extend our stay. The breakfast was to die for and included the opportunity to add some Baileys or champagne to our drinks! We were so close to our chosen restaurant that we could walk back and enjoy the sights and sounds of Merida at night. This is a jewel of Merida and must be experienced by anyone visiting Merida or looking to be spoiled in the heart of the city.

The Diplomat Hotel in Mérida is. Gorgeous place of great hospitality and friendship. I loved the Hacienda like room, the fantastic breakfast outside near the pool, the great drinks and the trust in the guests writing down what they had. But most of all the lovely, lovely people working there who could not have made it a better stay than it was! Absolutely recommended!

I’m not entirely sure how hotel star ratings are determined, but if ever a place deserved five stars, it’s The Diplomat Hotel. From the moment I arrived, I felt comforted. That may not be the word most would choose, but for me, it's everything—especially when landing somewhere new. I had a very rough flight into Mérida, one that left me quite ill, and I’ve been carrying the weight of some deeply stressful personal circumstances. So to find myself in a space so serene, so welcoming, so impeccably maintained—it felt like a gift. Every element of The Diplomat feels intentional. You can sense the love and thought behind it all. There’s a story behind each piece of furniture, every fixture, and the small daily rituals that make the experience feel quietly luxurious. And the soul of the space is its people. The staff are not only gracious, they are deeply thoughtful—and that spirit begins with Sara, the owner, whose presence is as integral as any design choice. She sets the tone, and it ripples through the entire experience. I spent two days of my stay recovering from that difficult arrival, and they cared for me in a way that went far beyond hospitality—checking in often, bringing ginger tea, offering ice packs, and making sure I felt safe. It wasn’t just service. It was care, offered with heart. I couldn’t recommend The Diplomat more, and I’m already looking forward to the day I return.

Love love love this hotel! Every corner is so gorgeous and well curated including the dreamy pool. All amenities are top quality. They include extra details that make every day so much more comfortable and enjoyable like an espresso machine in the room and freshly baked cookies upon your return in the afternoon. The honor bar has lots of great drink options, and the breakfast is incredible - the breakfast charcuterie board was my favorite with freshly baked warm focaccia bread, fresh fruit, gourmet cheese, etc. Warm and wonderful hosts and staff, perfect location to explore Merida, but still on a quiet side street. Truly one of the most relaxing and beautiful hotel stays I've ever had.

The Diplomat made us feel special from the moment we arrived until the moment we departed. It is a small boutique hotel with only 5 rooms. The small size allows the staff and owners to give their guests fine tuned personalized service including setting up dinner plans, finding guides and drivers and helping with shopping experiences. Oh and the breakfast.....YUM!!! If we ever get back to beautiful Merida we will definitely stay at the Diplomat again!
