The Oread Lawrence, Tapestry Collection by Hilton

I give this hotel three stars only because of the lack of customer service. I visited here at the beginning of April for a work trip and when I returned home, I noticed a larger than usual charge from the hotel. I called them to inquire about it and they told me I had purchased chips and a beer. I never purchased a beer, I don’t drink. I told them that this was a mistake on their end and they promised they would handle it through a refund. My company noticed they never reimburse me to this day, so I called them which led to me trying to get a hold of them for 20 to 30 minutes. Nobody would answer any of their phones. It’s literally 3 PM there. I don’t understand what else they would be doing? I finally got a hold of the restaurant who was able to connect me to the front desk, who connected me to accounting where the woman immediately hung up on me. I tried calling back got sent to her voicemail. Tried calling again and she finally answered. I told her that I had not been reimbursed and she claimed that I had. I had to get her to look it up so she could check her files to see if in fact I had been reimbursed. I am still waiting to get a callback from her, but this is ridiculous.

Lauren at the front desk is incredibly helpful. I was moved rooms in the evening because the AC in my first room wasn’t working well. I had forgotten a personal item in my previous room and she was able to retrieve it for me and hand-delivered it to me. Genuine smile, positive attitude, made me feel like a VIP :)

For over $900 a night I expected better. The curtains in my room did not shut. There was about a nine inch gap. The pillows were feather and hard as a rock. I asked for foam pillows and was told there were none. There is no breakfast menu any more, only the buffet. It consisted of cold scrambled eggs, cold bacon, oatmeal, potatoes, and a few pastries. The location is perfect for visiting the campus. The room was large and quiet. I just expected more from Hilton for that price, decent bedding and eatable food. I don't usually post negative reviews but this was a very disappointing experience.

Great place to get double charged. Hilton services need a lot of work. I had a prepaid reservation and called to say, I would be a day late. They cancelled all 4 days, but insisted that they would correct it, but of course the dingaling college kids charged again. Hilton services is zero help. Be careful booking Hilton. Other than that the Hotel is average Hilton property, nothing special other than location near downtown and campus.

I LOVE THIS HOTEL!! I was here on business at University of Kansas and always stay at this property. The rooms are enormous. The king size bed was comfortable and had plenty of fluffy pillows. The shower was huge and the water pressure was fantastic. Overall a fantastic stay.

The Harlem Tour with Lawrence Henderson is an amazing walking tour experience. We have taken walking tours in London, Paris, Berlin and Florence to name just a few cities, but The Harlem Tour is our best walking tour, maybe by far. Mr. Henderson is very professional, has an almost encyclopedic memory of the Harlem Renaissance and is in love with his subject and his community. We met him at a cafe on 125th Street and walked to the railway trestle above 125th Street and he welcomed us into "his office". In a beautiful enclosed space with stained glass windows he told us about some of the amazing artists and writers/poets of Harlem. From there we walked to Langston Hughes' house and the Langston Hughes story made a huge impact on me. From the Langston Hughes' house we walked to the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture which is a beautiful library and part of the NY Public Library System. At the Schomburg Library we saw the lovely mosaic carved in marble showing Langston Hughs' poem, "The ***** Speaks of Rivers" which is beautifully illustrated in the floor on the Schomburg Library. And then if we needed a topper, he took us to the Cake Man Ravens Cake Shop and had a delicious slice of Red Velvet Cake which is one of the best slices of cake any of us will ever eat. The Harlem Tour ended at the Apollo Theater which is world famous and has just been the site of a Drake Concert. Mr. Henderson's tour is one that all of us who are walking tour enthusiasts should take. It presents such a vivid sense of history and humanity. I plan to take it again as it was that enjoyable and enlightening. But New Yorkers should all take Mr. Henderson's tour as they will experience something rarely available which is joy in an historic event that is almost unparalleled. And visitors should experience this as well.

By far the best accommodation available within the state of Kansas. It is a castle built over 100 years ago but the rooms are modern and fresh as can be, also having two feet of stone walls makes the room incredibly quiet all the time. The dichotomy of modern accents in an ancient castle is incredibly alluring. The restaurant downstairs is fantastic and reasonably priced. Service across the board has been fantastic in every aspect, I would especially like to thank Nick Givechi, he was incredibly helpful and made me feel so valued as a client. Anytime I am in the area I will be staying at the Oread without a doubt. The hospitality is top notch and the pricing is better than any other hotel in Kansas in terms of value for your stay.

Check in was easy. Paper-thin walls and gap between door and hallway, people making coffee at 10pm will sound like someone is drilling the wall, as well as you can hear everyone walking by the room. No hand soap by the sink, but you can just reach into the shower to get body soap to wash your hands. USB plugs don't work once the light is off, so I recommend you don't rely on them. People at the front desk have their own small personal laptops that they use while there are no customers (nothing wrong usually), however, they won't know how to find a reservation, and will charge your credit card even if the employer has reserved and authorized the charge to their card. Also, you'll have an incidentals hold of 399.90 on your card for at least 3 days (after your stay). The gym is quite basic, the second night it had water, but the tv doesn't work. Bring your own device and headphones (as if there were other users around). The front desk won't answer the phone, so I would not recommend trying to reach out to them if you don't live nearby and can show up there in person. Hilton Hotels customer service will take at least 30 minutes to answer the phone when calling to discuss the situation, and when they are unable to reach the hotel, they'll just tell you to call the hotel yourself. Charging almost $400 for one Fri-Sat night, and $150 for one Thu-Fri night, one would expect more from a self-called nice hotel. Think twice, you are better off staying at another hotel closer to downtown, you will regret dealing with the Oread Lawrence.

We were in town for a college tour at KU. I booked this hotel due to its proximity to campus. Very spacious room, lovely amenities, restaurant / bar was good. What sets this hotel apart is the wonderful staff. My car battery was dead the morning of check out and 3 staff jumped into action and got my car started right away. They were very kind and helpful, and really went above and beyond. Thanks for an awesome stay!
