We stayed 6 nights in the River Cottage. We loved it. We usually stay at the resorts when traveling but truly enjoyed Fern Grotto. Unique experience. The grounds and amenties like kayaks, coolers, beach chairs, snorkeling equipment etc were very nice to have at your finger tips. The room was very clean and very well stocked. Don't overpack. Paul even had waterproof iphone cases in the room. Weather was perfect and we slept with the windows open. Which means roosters early in the morning but that's part of being on Kauai. Great location to go north, south and to find quick and good food. Highly recommend.

We wanted something smaller and more quiet than the big resorts. What a great find. Used the kayaks to go to the secret falls and beach chairs and coolers when exploring other parts of the island. A wonderful home base for our time on Kaua and location made it easy to go north, south, or west or explore the east side.

I had to gulp a little at the reservation system: paid months in advance, but it turned out to be well worth it. For those who avoid big commercial places, this is the crown jewel of Kauai. It was hard to know what was available, [almost no communication from the owner] but it turns out they had kayaks at no charge... the trip up the estuary was fantastic. No commercial kayak tours are allowed on the weekends, so that made it nice. The room was clean, cool and a great bed. Fun property - would be great with a big family. It's a great location. Be sure to try the Lemongrass Grill, and Konohiki poki buffet and take-out. Fresh and delicious. Total local's place.

What a beautiful place to stay! We stayed for 11 days in the Garden Cabin and were wonderfully pleased. Comfortable room with everything we needed for the stay. Very gracious touches like flowers and chocolates. We used the BBQ, kayaks, and all the beach equipment. Total fun and relaxation. Even filtered water in the fridge with ice already made. We totally loved the Fern Grotto Inn. Paul was gracious and accommodating as our travel plans changed due to a huge storm and flight cancellations. A real local feel for Kapa’a.

We stayed in Coco D, a sweet sunny clean studio with a River view. The bed was super comfy and the kitchen was so well stocked, including complimentary beer and chocolates. Loved having the available kayaks and bikes. We used them both! Location is perfect for touring all parts of the island. Would definitely stay here again!

We stayed for a week at River cottage- it’s perfect for a couple- not much room for another unless it’s a child. Peaceful and quiet with lovely landscaping. It’s only 15 mins from airport and is a great starting point for just about any part of the island you want to visit. The owner Paul is responsive and friendly. We will be back for another visit.

Fern Grotto is in an excellent location. It is close to the airport and a drive to the other shores of the island is no more than 45-50 minutes. We enjoyed the peacefulness of the inn and the fact that it felt welcoming. We also enjoyed the star fruits from the tree on the property..yum! Our room was well stocked with towels and bath and kitchen necessities. The bed was very comfortable, and we always awakened feeling rested. Washer and dryer are provided and supplied with detergent pods and dryer sheets. The friendly manager lives at the inn and when we needed an item, he provided it quickly. This is a wonderful alternative to the resort experience. Would stay there again.

Hard to put into words just how thoughtful Paul and his team are. No stone left unturned in this place; they literally thought of everything for their guests' comfort. We stayed a week and were so happy to return to this sanctuary every night after adventuring around Kauai. From our arrival finding relaxing music playing and cold beers in the fridge to our last evening reflecting on a perfect vacation while listening to the breeze blow through the leaves of the starfruit tree outside our window, we were so happy we chose the Fern Grotto Inn.

My husband and I stayed at Fern Grotto Inn on our weeklong trip to Kauai, and we loved our stay. We stayed in the Garden cottage, which was thoughtfully appointed with everything we needed, down to a flashlight on our room key for coming home in the dark and a clothesline for hanging our bathing suits to dry after a day at the beach. Paul and his team clearly put a lot of love and care into this establishment. The grounds were beautiful, too. We also appreciated Fern Grotto Inn’s proximity to restaurants and grocery stores in Wailua/Waipouli/Kapa’a, and that its eastside location meant we never had too long of a drive to sights on the north shore and the south shore. We would highly recommend staying here!
