My family and I just checked in today and things have been all down hill. We requested early check in which they weren't able to fulfill. No big deal as that's not guaranteed anywhere. I asked if they can hold our bags while we walked the property and was basically told to keep the bags in the car which was unusual attitude for a ”luxury” hotel but whatever, I'm on vacation and tried to not let it bother me. They gave us access to the gym and pool which was nice. The kids went to the gym and the wife and I went to sit by the pool, take in the view, and get some drinks and a bit to eat at the ”cabana” which is basically a beverage cart set up by the pool. We ordered two drinks and two simple items off of the food menu. We got our drinks and were told the food would be brought to our table. The table is typical poolside type stuff but there was a desperate lack of umbrellas so we sat in the hot sun trying to appreciate the view. 20 minutes goes by and not a sign of our order. 30 minutes, the same thing. 40 minutes, the same. The girl in the cart even came out to see if we needed more drinks but seemed confused when we asked about our food. 50 minutes later and we go to demand a refund as we figured we'd just wait until dinner. Lo and behold, they can't refund us because they ”lost the transaction”. Ugh. I called my bank to dispute the charge. Then the food suddenly appeared. It was mediocre even for a chicken club sandwich and chicken satay skewers. Frustrated, we went to the front desk to see if our room was ready yet and we were told it wasn't even after they told us it be. We waited until 4:30 and then asked again. Still not ready. Other guests in the lobby were in the same situation and the hotel had no explanation or remedy. Finally, the woman at the front desk called housekeeping and was told that it was clean but it ”had to be inspected by a supervisor first before we could be checked in”. Nearly an hour later I got a text that the room was ready. We made our way to room which is in one of their lakefront suites and it's disgraceful. The tile outside the door is broken and some are missing. The plaster on the wall is flaking off and cracking. The tables are of really low quality and show obvious signs of wear. There were two peach pits on the floor of the room (some inspection, supervisor). The sofa is made out of some bargain basement itchy material. The vanity in the bathroom is starting to bubble and crack along the bottom. There are no extra blankets in the room. The lampshade near the bed is ripped and has some sort of suspicious red splatter on it. Even the switch plates are dirty. I had hoped this would be an unforgettable part of a great vacation. I guess it is but for all the wrong reasons. I've stayed at Fairmont properties throughout Alberta - the Palliser in Calgary, Banff Springs, and the Chateau at Lake Louise - and all have been great experiences. This one however, quite candidly, sucks. I'll stay elsewhere when I come throug
