I don’t usually review hotels because there are often too many negatives or the experience is just average. However, The National Hotel Newcastle stands out as a modern hotel that truly embraces 21st-century standards—something all hotels should aim for. The bed was incredibly comfortable, with the best mattress I’ve ever slept on in a hotel, and the pillows were perfect. I’m particular about cleanliness, and I was pleased to find no dust under the bed, thanks to the blocked-off design. There was a little dust on the bed board shelf, especially behind the iPad holder, but nothing major. The TV was large, high-quality, and had internet access, which is always a bonus. The blackout blinds and screen were excellent and operated with the touch of a button. The air conditioning worked well, though it was a little noisy at times, but not excessively so. The bathroom was well-equipped, with all the essentials and a good, hot shower. The contemporary art photography of the local area in both the room and throughout the hotel added a nice touch. The room offered a nice selection of complimentary coffee capsules and tea bags, along with a coffee machine, although the light in the coffee area wasn’t working (or I couldn’t find the switch). I also discovered a safe in the bottom cupboard and a luggage rack by the wardrobe, which at first glance looked like a folded ironing board. The hotel’s library area was a pleasant surprise—bright and open, with free tea, coffee, and three types of drinking water on tap. There were also USB points, charging sockets, and cubicles for private video chats. I appreciated the use of live indoor plants and original photography throughout the hotel. Another thoughtful touch was the drinking water stations located at various points, allowing guests to refill their bottles. The bar and restaurant area was also pleasant, offering a small but satisfying menu and a fully stocked bar. Additionally, the car park had several EV charging spots, making it convenient for electric vehicle owners. Overall, I had a great stay at The National Hotel Newcastle and look forward to returning!

Great stay at Rydges Newcastle. Awesome location on the harbour. Close to beaches and with ample dining options right on your doorstep. The only let down was the buffet breakfast. Not a great selection of food, and the staff were totally overwhelmed with the breakfast crowd. Food was very slow to come from the egg station and tables were left unclean.

L'hotel è molto generale, con quattro stelle di scudo, ma in realtà è molto inferiore al livello internazionale di quattro stelle.La stanza non è molto piccola, ma le strutture sono generalmente, i piani sono sotto i cinque livelli, quindi nessun tipo di camera prenotato può vedere il panorama del mare. La stanza è molto scarsa in igiene, la coppa di latte non si sente lavata, e la lavatrice è molto facile da pulire.Un piano di cenere sul desktop della stanza, e i capelli gialli sono visibili sul muro della lavatrice

Dopo un giorno di viaggio e di guida stanco, mio marito e io eravamo stanchi e pronti a controllare il nostro hotel, solo per scoprire che abbiamo accidentalmente prenotato il giorno precedente. Eravamo molto benvenuti da Jane, che andò subito a lavorare per cambiare le cose e per trovarci una stanza; non solo adorabile, ma anche molto amichevole, felice e ovviamente amava il suo lavoro e la gente con cui lavorava. Ci ha mostrato nella nostra stanza che è ancora più bella di quella delle foto.

2 days before 3 of us were due to stay at another property in Newcastle, (a 2 bedroom apartment), I was called to say the apartment I had booked (Nouveau on Young) had become unavailable due to the people in it extending their stay. Suffice to say that a heated discussion entailed and even more so when the only alternative they offered was a 1 bedroom apartment with a trundle bed in the lounge room for my 70 year old sister to sleep in, in this so called ”Executive Apartment” in a completely different suburb!! The only recompense the SMUG manager offered was free parking! OR of course the other option of cancelling our booking and getting a refund.... We had booked the other apartment 6 months before our stay as it is very near the Stadium where we were seeing a concert and obviously the whole of Newcastle was booked out by the time it came to 2 days beforehand. This apartment was ok, though not properly cleaned. The bedroom is small, the furniture is old and worn. The verandah not maintained. It certainly isn't big enough for 3 people to stay in comfortably! This company operates a string of properties in Newcastle and I would be wary of receiving any reliability, help, sympathy or recompense regarding your booking.

A very professional and friendly team! The manager in duty saved the day for fixing my booking agent’s stuff-up. We cannot thank her enough! Great location and very modern & sleek interior. The free brekkie is beyond our expectations. I’d definitely stay with them again.!

I stayed at the Executive Inn in Newcastle recently, and while the overall experience was pleasant, one incident stood out. The rooms were clean, spacious, and well-appointed, and the facilities, including the pool and on-site dining, were excellent. The staff were friendly and welcoming upon check-in. However, during the middle of the night, the fire alarm went off unexpectedly, and all guests had to evacuate. We were stranded outside for about an hour with minimal communication or updates from staff, which was frustrating and uncomfortable. While I understand such incidents can happen, a clearer protocol or faster resolution would have been appreciated. Aside from this disruption, the stay was comfortable, and I would consider returning, hoping this was just a one-off occurrence.

Due to airport and airline chaos during school holidays, we had to drive between Canberra and the Gold Coast and on the way back, we decided to stop over at Newcastle. We (family with 2 young kids) have not used hotel style accommodation since the kids were born and rise of Air BNB for a long time and due to short notice, we decided to book this style of accommodation. We had the 2 bedroom apartment and the accomodation is situated in the residential/industrial area, which was in a quiet location. The rooms are clean, modern, the beds were actually quite comfy. And yes as we expected in a traditional hotel setting, there is not much room for kids to run around, which doesn't bother us. The best thing is the restaurants (A club) are just next door and we don't have to worry about looking for food in an unfamiliar place. We had lovely dinner and breakfast there. Food is reasonably decent and reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and courteous. Overall, it was a lovely over night stay for stop over

Nice central location, comfortable, secure car parking, check in process streamlined. Apartment equipment all working. Missing bed side lights. Bit worn overall. Needs a little bit of attention to bring up to excellent standard, great views
