We stayed The Elgin in Gangtok during our Sikkim trip in early May. 1. Location: 20-25 mins walking from MG Market. Easily accesible by car. Great views of the Palzor football stadium. 2. Ambience/ Property: Immaculately maintained heritage property and gardens. We were offered room 404 which was both spacious and cozy. Beautiful decor. 3. Service/ Dining: Great service. Staff are similing and ever willing to oblige. Special mention to Sharmila (desk), Ashoke and RajKishore (dining) and the gardening/ cleaning staff. I would crib that dining menu was limited and pricey though, although good in taste and service. Especially the cookies, tea, cakes at tea service. 4. Accessibility: It is a heritage property so has no lifts/ elevators. One has to use the stairs. 4. BONUS: Hilton, the furry Samoyed was a treat and we loved to play with him. We also picked up the book ”Kanchenjunga Whispers” by the owner. Rea Oberoi. On hindsight we should have stayed in The Elgin in Pelling and Darjeeling too.

Hotel New Castle score high on all fronts. It's very clean, in a great location, and the staff take hospitality to the next level. Ravi is the most reliable person I've come across in organizing trips. He quickly grasps what exactly the guests are looking for, and finds the most suitable solution rapidly and efficiently. He found us good vehicles , safe drivers at a reasonable cost. To us, Ravi is the face of Gangtok now. In fact, on the first evening, he smilingly assured us he would personally come to fetch us back if we couldn't get a taxi. We did get one :-) I was amazed to find him hand us some beautifully packed muffins and sandwiches ( at 7 am !) as were setting out on a long trip - he said we wouldn't find decent vegetarian options at the end of our journey. His ***tra really is ” Athithi Devo Bhavaha” - the Guest is God. Sanju would cheerfully fetch us wonderful piping hot coffee early in the morning, when the restaurant was not even open . Rajen , always smiling and helpful; at the front desk . The hotel is on the main road, about a km to MG Market. Time taken is a better measure than distance as the roads wind up and down a lot in Gangtok. However local share taxis charge Rs 20/ per person to take you there, so the location is still very central and comfortable. Perhaps there could be better hotels - but you would be hard put to find people who would work so hard to make your trip a wonderful memory. I would recommend this whole heartedly.

Buona base non fritte hotel. Buona cibo per il costo. Non lussuoso ma dal momento che abbiamo avuto tour di giorno intero e cercavano solo un posto pulito per rimanere questo sembrava adeguato. Pro: Il personale è amichevole, cooperativo e voglia di aiutare. A richiesta dell'agente di viaggio, avevano pianificato una buona sorpresa di compleanno, ma la moglie si e' infettata a causa di un lungo viaggio da Bagdogra, ma il personale del ristorante (soprattutto la regina Preeti) ha preso cura di bene e ha fornito acqua calda che apprezziamo. Suggerimenti per il miglioramento: le camere e le foglie sono pulite. Tuttavia, in alcune parti della stanza c'è un po' di covo, di forma e di pittura svanita. Qualcuno che acceda alla notte può trovarlo disgustoso a causa della scarsa luce. Torneremmo qui per la buona ospitità e deliziosa cibo.
