Hotel a Funchal, São Martinho

Abbiamo avuto un tempo molto felice in questo bel hotel e è stato una vergogna che il nostro ultimo giorno il ricevitore era così triste e sgradevole per noi che ha gettato un'ombra per tutta la nostra permanenza. Comunque, a partire da questo, ci piaceva il legno scuro, i tessuti svaniti, i divano squash, eccetera, che erano sul lato di Franco dell’hotel, e ci piaceva il piccolo ristorante e bar che erano a pochi minuti a piedi. Il lato Mar è al livello del mare e è più luminoso, ma senza il carattere del lato Franco, dipende ciò che vuoi! Tuttavia, noti che se hai fatto parte della TUI la tua stanza sarà la parte della Franco (che sarebbe la nostra preferenza) ma la foto sul sito web TUI mostra la parte Mar dell'hotel

Excellent location, close to everything, clean rooms, friendly staff, excellent breakfast, the spa was great, the outdoor swimming pool was great even with some rain, good internet service, and 2 x charges in the garage... Great experience.

I PRO: E' in una posizione strategica e favolosa, direttamente sulla spiaggia di Praia Formosa e il rumore delle onde del mare è fantastico. La struttura e ben curata, dispone di 2 piscine esterne + idromassaggio esterno, le camere sono molto spaziose, immerso nel verde con un giardino curatissimo. Il personale della reception è MOLTO DISPONIBILE e GENTILE. I CONTRO: il cibo, ma ci tengo a precisare che noi italiani siamo esigenti. Cucina prettamente internazionale, orientata verso tedeschi, inglesi, francesi, poca scelta di pietanze, la pasta è meglio lasciar perdere, non vi avvicinate alla macchinetta del caffè fuori perchè il caffè prende un cattivo gusto e i bicchieri sanno da ”freschino”. Manca del tutto animazione italiana, solo karaoke inglese/tedesco/francese. Non c'è mini club.

1* No A/C or heat. Rooms are cooked during the day. We stayed there late September / October. Slept with the sliding door open, but had to put up with the road noise and cigarette smoke, day and night from other rooms. It was hard to sleep at night, as the room would finally cool down at 3 a.m. 2* Did not have towels for 3 days. Asked several times a day, but still took3 days. Even then, they gave us 1-towel for everyone. 3* Hotel WiFi did not work on my laptop, it gave me a non-routable IP address, so no internet access. 4* The safe had no lock on it (see picture). 5* Took 2 days to send an iron to the room. 6* Breakfast was ok, but low-quality food. Coffee was made from instant powder dry milk(horrible tasting). Cakes had eggshells in them. I never took a second bite of any of the pastries they served. Luckily there are a few cafes 5-15 minutes away from the hotel. 7* The staff was not friendly. Especially the younger lady at the front desk. Sassy and condescending, every time. Even when asked a simple question. 8* Cracks on the wall. Broken floor tiles in the bathroom, and nasty mold(see pictures). 9* Looks like they have not updated this place in the last 20 years. 10* Our booking check-out time was 12:00 p.m., but we were asked to vacate at 11:00 a.m., even after we showed them the booking. Very rude about it as well (The same lady mentioned above). 11* We went there to drop off our luggage in the storage room. It was unlocked and unattended, with no employees, people were just walking in and out freely, able to drop/pick up any luggage. There was a sign there that the hotel is not responsible for any lost luggage (See pictures). 12* The hotel key has the hotel name and the room number printed on it in bold letters. Someone finds your key; they have access to your room and stuff. 13* Go somewhere else. Other guests we not happy either. I wonder if the positive reviews are real?

La stanza è grande alla porta della casa. In un attimo, è molto buono. Il balcone è confortevole e non vuole. I vestiti di lavanderia temporanea sono molto comodi. I vestiti di lavanderia sono puliti velocemente e economicamente. Alla porta, il popcorn è bevuto per un buon decollo. Il bar della notte è super atmosfera. Ascoltare la bella canzone per rilassarsi e dormire, il personale di servizio si prende cura di due volte, il parcheggio insulare è inconveniente, c'è un servizio di parcheggio hotel senza preoccupazioni, ma il prezzo è 20 euro al giorno

This hotel was excellent. There are 1 and 2 star reviews here on TA - I do not recognise the picture in these reviews - all I can say is that the more spelling mistakes I see in a review, the less I value it. (I mean - you expect the hotel to be so perfect in every respect, the least you could do is exercise the same level of care and attention in your review. How can you expect high standards elsewhere when you don't hold yourself to the same level?) From the moment we walked in we felt welcome. The check-in was very simple and efficient. We arrived quite late, and they'd thought to have a tray of cold food sent up to our room for us. Thank you! There is an underground car-park free for guests (useful with a hire car) and whilst we were there it was not too busy at any point. The Wifi is easy to connect to and pretty fast. It did tend to drop out quite a bit when in the main bar area, but otherwise it was problem-free. The pools and areas are excellent - perhaps it would be nice to have one of the outdoor pools slightly heated - they could be cold. The little gym is fine - like most hotel gyms its not exactly a full health-club, but it allows you to keep up most of your workout routine. Restaurants - really good. The buffet for breakfast and evening meal was excellent - very well presented, maintained, and huge choice. That includes for vegetarians, with the slight caveat that it would have been nice to have vegetarian hot main meals for dinner, although with the very wide salad range, no-one is short of choice. The three special restaurants (Madeiran, Italian, and Moroccan) were also great, and although you have to book in advance, there's no limitation on how many times you can go. Vegetarians here generally have to ask, but then there are plenty of options. The staff in all the restaurants were particularly friendly and good at what they do. The room was nice, and comfortable. We had a double room with an extra bed (to make it a family room) - perhaps it was a little small for that given that it is a 5-star, but it was by no means cramped and if you were just a couple in that, then you'd be fine. The room housekeeping was good. A small criticism is that although there was a leaflet saying that soft drinks in the minibar would be replaced (for free) this wasn't done - I don't know if we needed to specifically ask. It wasn't a problem for us (or we would have asked) but it would be nice to have had that happen automatically. Point of criticism - we seemed to spend a little longer waiting for lifts than would be ideal - there seemed to be one lift out of operation although no signage to that effect, and the lifts were a little under-sized - quite cramped when more than three people were in. In many ways the experience of a hotel like this can be affected by the number of people, and while we were here, it didn't seem overly full - perfect for us but may not always be like that. Hotel in una posizione splendida verso l’oceano con meravigliose albe e tramonti. Proprio davanti c’è ‘Ilheu do Gorgulho’, un isolotto che da un effetto particolare e in lontananza le ‘Ilhas Desertas’. L’hotel è evidentemente incastrato in una scogliera, visto che si accede da una strada litoranea e la reception è al 5° piano. Però parecchie cose lasciano a desiderare. Stanze piccole e non confortevoli, anche se la scelta è stata su una camera standard la più economica, ma parliamo pur sempre di un hotel 4 stelle al costo di oltre 200 euro a notte per camera doppia. Ristorante abbiamo pranzato il primo giorno, non soddisfacente; breakfast scadente la qualità e la scelta. Servizi essenziali, declamata SPA ridicola, strutture e ambienti trascurati senza nessuna attrattiva. Un vero peccato perché con poche cose in più potrebbe esser un ‘ottimo’.

Posizione: L'Hotel è un poco decentrato da Funchal ma facilmente raggiungibile con i bus 01-02-04 le cui fermate sono a 200 Metri. In stile ”marina” abbastanza impersonale e freddo, a mio giudizio, con la ricezione aperta 24 ore. Camere: Camere ampie con angolo cucina e bollitore (Senza tè o Caffè), piccola terrazza e bagno ampio e comodo. Letti troppo piccoli e materassi a molle abbastanza scomodi. Cuscini improponibili, morbidi e cadenti e senza possibilità di scelta. Pulizia: Pulizia normale ma con camere sistemate alla meglio e senza rifare bene i letti (Sistemato solo il lenzuolo e la coperta di sopra). Colazione: Buone scelte sugli extra (gratis) ma insufficiente per quanto riguarda affettati, formaggi e scelte del pane. Dolci scarsissimi con solo tre scelte e senza torte disposizione. Non è un 4 Stelle e per il prezzo ci sono altri Hotel migliori nella zona
