If you've read the below reviews you'll see the occasional negative comments regarding a couple of roof leaks, cold pool, worn carpet, steep hill. Yes, they all exist but none of them were a negative to what was a fantastic week we just had (although a warmer pool would have been nice, still got in though). Spacious room with a view on to the immaculate garden. Delicious breakfasts. Friendly staff. Must have the best view in town. We will be back, thank you.

A very big thank you to all the staff at Quinta Funchal Gardens. The facilities were amazing and we had everything we needed. Very comfortable room and the view from the balcony was great. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet each morning and the evening meal was top quality too. All of the staff went the extra mile to make our engagement evening extra special for us, an evening we won't forget. Thank you all again.

Poor service really let down this 5 star hotel. The staff were largely uninterested in making our stay enjoyable and we booked out early.

Great hotel and staff. Lovely ambiance and fantastic views over Funchal and harbour. Maintenance issues need addressing Unfortunately the hotel is understaffed sometimes

We have just returned from this Hotel and had a fabulous week. The Hotel itself is exceptionally clean and the cleaning staff and restaurant staff are extremely friendly and helpful. You have to walk around the grounds of this hotel, there are lots of places to sit and enjoy the views or read a book and enjoy the piece and quiet. The food is to excellent, although it is help yourself at breakfast, dinner is served at the table from a good choice menu. Pool towels are in the Wardrobe. Wardrobe not that large if you want to hang stuff up, but there is plenty of draw/cupboard space. We found that the safe instructions were not that helpful. If you hire a car the Hotel charges 10 euros a day to park it. If you are on a budget, it might be worth keeping a daily tab on your Hotel bill, as you sign and do not get receipts and you may not want a 'surprise' at the end of your Holliday? You can pay as you go if this works better for you. Tourist Tax is 2 euros per person per day. Hand dryer in Room was good, although our room had two. The main one we found was in the bathroom. No bathrobes Inside Pool is very cold, probably OK in June, July & August? Didn't see hardly any umbrellas, but maybe they bring them out in the summer months? They have maps of the area at Reception if you want one. Getting into Funchal can either be by bus (#11) (1.95 pp) or you can walk, it took us walking 45 mins, it's all downhill and we then got the bus back up. You turn right our of the Hotel Gate and right again and just follow the road down into Funchal. Coming back the best bus stop to get off, is just pass the Hotel and then you just have to walk down to the Hotel . When in Funchal the bus stop is right outside the main Shopping Mall and it's a 5 min trip back. It's near to the Street fountain and Municipal gardens. The main place I want to mention is 'The Loft' coffee/restaurant which is near the cable cars, food is very good and reasonable. The Shopping Mall has toilets and has a Supermarket on the ground floor (this we did not find out until the end of the holiday). Toilets are also found in the Municipal Gardens (all very clean) which is next the the Cruise ships on the right as you look at the sea. If you want a Supermarket, you can go out of the Hotel turn right up the hill and keep going, there is one , it took us 1/2 hour to walk all uphill and it's on the right. Would we return, yes definitely . Tips: take teabags and buy milk in supermarket as hotel only provides creamer.
