Fox Glacier: hotel a 2 stelle

This backpackers/hostel is absolutely adorable and I can’t recommend it highly enough: To start, all of the people that passed through here in our time were simply lovely- a great mix of couples, solo travellers and families from around the world. It was quiet despite all the people being around and also very friendly. The kitchen is fabulous and big and inviting as are the common areas and lounges. There is a hot tub and a sauna- I’ll just say that again- a HOT TUB and a SAUNA to come home to every night after hiking, helicopter adventuring or whatever your day has entailed in this area/ and the price was right (we had a twin room sharing the shower and toilet facilities which were all clean). It’s also a two second walk to the Main Street of town with all the amenities, businesses and restaurants. The mountain view backdrop is also lovely. Cannot recommend highly enough! Also unrelated to here- but the local convenience store sells homemade breakfast burgers for a fraction of the price of the cafe made by one of the employees and they are simply fab!

E'un normale hotel auto, c'è cucina pubblica, l'igiene è anche possibile, il posto di passaggio è molto caldo, c'è un parcheggio, c'è un ristorante vicino, un supermercato, ma tutte le porte sono chiuse presto

Per persona 25-30 Newco è un person a, il gusto è buono.L'hotel glaciale Fox è generalmente costoso. È l'unico prezzo di più di 1000 per 11 giorni in Nuova Zelanda.

Il ricevitore maschile che ci ha salutati non era molto gentile, e solo quando siamo arrivati al nostro primo piano abbiamo letto un servizio di bagagli, la stanza era ben attrezzata e pulita, e altri collaboratori che abbiamo interagito con erano gentili. Tuttavia, il problema più grande è che le pareti tra le camere sono carta sottile, in modo che potremmo sentire le persone accanto alla porta e le porte bassa. Questo ci ha svegliato presto nelle due notti che ci siamo fermati. Se si rimane - portare i pezzi d'orecchio. C'era un salotto con un bar, il bar era permanentemente chiuso, quindi non c'era posto per bere un drink caldo o freddo, a meno che non andasse a un caffè in strada.

Era una vera delusione quando arrivava. Non si sentiva certo 4*. La stanza era molto stanca, c’era una cucina con tutti gli attrezzatura che poteva essere necessari, ma doveva lavare la cucina, perché i coltelli erano sporchi. Sembrava che fosse stato solo un leggero pulizia, ma i letti erano confortevoli e la doccia era buona; la zona si sentiva molto inclinata, c’era una scelta molto limitata di posti da mangiare, ma ci sono stati un paio di pasti molto carini vicino. Se non fossimo stati entro pochi minuti a piedi per il viaggio dell’elicottero che avevamo prenotato, non saremmo rimasti. In equità, non ha aiutato ci fosse una pioggia torrenziale all’epoca, che non aiuta mai. C’era una terrazza all’esterno, ma solo a circa 10 metri dalla casa vicina, le finestre guardavano nella nostra stanza; ci chiedevamo se c’era un’altra stanza disponibile, ma non ci fu detto, nonostante il segno all’esterno che c’erano vacanze.

Great location, very friendly and efficient staff. Very clean and neat. Staff were quick to help us out with some local suggestions where to go and eat and what to see.

We stayed here one night. Franz Josef Glacier is a nicer place to stay, but we wanted to be positioned at Fox Glacier so we were better positioned to do the early morning walk to Lake Matheson. Many of the accommodation options in Fox are closed due to COVID, others seemed to me to be ridiculously expensive. This place looked okay on paper. I booked on line. When we arrived our first impression was that it was closed. The entrance looks unkempt and the car park area is full of ****s. However there was a woman behind the reception counter. The first thing she wanted was for me to pay in cash, because their eftpos machine was not working. Needless to say I did not have enough cash - who carries much cash around these days? I asked her if there was an ATM in town, but she did not know. I logged onto their wi-fi to find for myself that there is no ATM in Fox Glacier, the nearest being in Franz Josef. We were not driving back to Franz Josef to get some cash! On reflection, at this point, I should have said we would go elsewhere, but instead I offered to try and get some cash out in the town in conjunction with buying a meal. We were allowed to drop our gear in the room and we drove back into town (hotel is a little distance outside the township). Not many options for a meal, but we found a very decent burger and chips at a cafe. But they could not provide me with the amount of cash I needed for the hotel. Back to the hotel, to be told the eftpos had been fixed - presumably by the guy we saw arriving as we left to go back into town. So we paid for the room and settled in for an early night. We were the only occupants. The owners/operators didn't appear to live on site, so we must have been the only people in the building overnight. There was absolutely no sign of life and it was a bit spooky. They did not provide any phone number to contact anyone if we had a problem. The rooms are nice enough - spacious and comfortable, with everything you need. There was mould on the curtains. The hotel restaurant is of course closed at the moment, thanks to COVID. Reception hours were something like 9am to 7pm. We left in the morning about 7.30am. Not a soul to be seen. We left our room key in the box on the reception counter, unlocked the main door to leave the building and departed. Had to leave the door unlocked. This was not a pleasant experience, but I am sure it would have been better if things had been ”normal”, and COVID was not hurting everything. We would definitely not consider returning to this hotel.

Mi piaceva davvero stare qui. Il personale era così utile e gentile, ci ha dato un caldo benvenuto e ci ha guidati in una camera calda e accogliente. Ci era una cucina condivisa che poteva essere accessibile in qualsiasi momento (Certo cibo era stato messo fuori per colazione, naturalmente). Al check-in, il signore ci invitava a fare una passeggiata notturna lungo una strada forestale vicina, una visita di lucidi complimentari, che era davvero divertente. Il guida era freddo, chattato e ci ha preso il tempo per poter godere dei lucidi. Tornate all'alloggio - il letto era molto comodo e abbiamo avuto molte camere per rilassarsi. I riscaldatori per i tovaglioli sono sempre un vincitore per me! Mi sentivo molto comodo in questo hotel e potevo stare molto più a lungo, ma questo dovrà essere la prossima volta che sono a NZ. Ci siamo fermati qui per due notti e abbiamo avuto problemi con questo posto come segue: 1. Arrivando al check in una vecchia donna cinese apparve alla ricezione, chiamando un numero sul suo telefono e puntando su di esso. Sono stato collegato con suo figlio che è altrove e ha fatto il check-in con lui per telefono....veramente ?? 2. La prima stanza che ci è stata data non aveva WiFi, perché era così lontano dalla ricezione. Abbiamo chiesto di essere spostato, telefonicamente, e abbiamo fornito un'altra stanza dove funzionava il wifi. 3. Il cappuccio sul caldaio è stato rotto e si è rotto quando l'inchiostro è stato riempito. 4. La pressione dell'acqua calda sembra quasi non esistente e, nelle mattine quando tutti si sono docciati, non c'era quasi acqua che usciva dal doccia e stamattina mi sono alzato alle 6 per fare la doccia presto, ma ancora quasi nessuna pressione e mi sono preso per sempre 5. Il letto era super springy e non si sentiva molto come la qualità. Nella parte superiore, ci sono molti parcheggi come poche persone nel motel ( mi chiedo perché ?) e il motel è vicino alla strada principale di Fox Glacier. Ho sempre esaminato i nostri hotel sulle nostre viaggi e il 99% del tempo dare recensioni brillanti, ma questo posto ha un prestito a quasi $200 Aud per notte. Puoi fare molto meglio altrove
