This is a beautiful riad, with a beautiful team of hard-working and excellent Moroccan staff. Unfortunately, our experience as a team of 16 women on a pilgrimage was tainted by the very poor behaviour of the French owner and host of the riad. We found her to be distant and cold from the beginning, often feeling watched and surveyed by her - in stark contrast to the oustanding Moroccan team she has. This we may have excused despite it making us feel uncomfortable, but her behaviour on one afternoon was particularly disappointing. When our Moroccan guide who was born in and has lived in Fes his whole life and is well respected arrived, she stood up and surveyed us and him. He greeted her warmly and kindly, though she ignored him. He remained standing whilst we prepared to leave. He asked if he may check something on the wifi whilst waiting, and she rather rudely and uncharitably said no. It was very uncomfortable for us and him, and she didn't approach any of us to discuss it and instead continued to stand over watching all of us. Despite her rudeness, he warmly greeted her as we left, which she again ignored. She then approached one of us after he left and asked that he does not return again, and proceeded to ignore us all in the street for the duration of our stay. Fourteen of us then departed, and she sent a message apologising for her behaviour, and she then proceeded to behave as you would expect a host to towards the remaining two guests. Although this apology did come, she had opportunities to rectify the situation in the moment, and for days after, yet she continued to affirm her position and behave rudely, ignoring us and making us feel very uncomfortable. This was a disappointing experience and we shall not be returning, despite the excellent Moroccan team.
