An absolutely beautiful hotel in a converted mansion. The staff is incredibly helpful and the location is near most of the Medina's attractions. Breakfast is included and excellent. The rooms have solid wifi and air conditioning, and although there are no elevators the staff will help with bags before you even ask. A few notes that Americans would not expect: -The Riad will expect payment in cash (in MAD). Much of Morocco is cash-only, and this is doubly true in Fez. -The Riad is going to expect that you will not have made plans and will instead ask them to set things up for you. This is going to be a common offer from many people you meet in Fes. If you book a tour with a guide, that guide is going to want to arrange any other tours. The Riad hosts, in our case, were somewhat annoyed that we had booked tours to fill our days. We later learned that there is a general system of informal kickbacks that filter back from anything that you buy... which will inflate the price of those goods (aka Tourist Tax or Foreigner Tax). My suggestion is to book your tours and fill your days, but tell the Riad that you just intend to walk around and explore. Meet your guide offsite if you don't want to deal with the Riad's annoyance. -After your stay, your hosts will likely offer their contact information. This is useful if you want to ship things from Fes, since most small stores don't have websites. It'll cost you a markup but is useful!
