I booked my trip back in May for October to stay at the Chena Hot Springs Resort for 3 nights. I did my research. I knew what to expect from the location and from the resort. I planned everything I needed to bring and how I was going to spend my time there well before I left. That being said, it was one of the best destination decisions I’ve made, and as a travelling ballroom dancer, I’ve stayed at a lot of full service, bougie places that didn’t live up to what I experienced here, but again I planned ahead and knew what to expect. This place has so much character and heart and the staff and everyone I interacted with there were absolutely wonderful. The shuttle ride from the airport was a fun adventure. Our driver went above and beyond, asking us if we wanted to stop in at North Pole since it was on the way and took us to the Santa shop. He was so informative with lots of great stories along the way and made for a fun ride to the hot springs. He tried to help us spot a moose, but none were to found that day. The hot springs is a beautiful area with some great hiking trails and the facilities are absolutely charming. I stayed in one of the upstairs Fox rooms, and they were very clean, and nice and warm. It was perfect for coming back to after a cold night of Aurora viewing on the Charlie Dome, or your favourite outdoor activity of choice (I am in love with the moose lamp!). All of the staff here have been super friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The Aurora tour was so great the first night, that I signed up to go again on the second night. The lights did not disappoint on both nights, and I got some amazing shots as well as some time to just sit under the magical presence that is the Aurora. The ride up to the Charlie Dome was also super fun! Think of it as a half hour ride in a massage chair. Everyone I was with both nights were having a great time, and I met some really wonderful people from many different places. I highly recommend the cider from the hot bar in the yurt at the top, it was delicious. Another great highlight was the ice museum tour. They have some amazing sculptures and the appletini in the handcrafted ice glass at the Aurora Bar was divine. I also recommend this tour. The restaurant had great service and the food was fabulous. The coffee shop has everything you need, and the specialty drinks were better than Starbucks. It’s nice walking around the grounds or trails in the crisp October air with a nice hot latte in your hands. I didn’t try out the hot springs during my stay, but everyone I spoke to mentioned how relaxing and refreshing they were. I will have to try them next time. On the third night, I was able to view the Aurora from behind the Activity Centre and they gave a dazzling show. Chena Hot Springs was the perfect place to start my vacation, and has been one of my favourite places to visit. I would definitely like to come back one day.
