Let me start by saying that I have stayed in this hotel over 20 times in the last 8 years through business and leisure. I have always been impressed by the facilities and wonderful staff. On this occasion the hotel was not up to its normal high standards. This should probably have been a 1 star review, but I felt it unfair as I have not reviewed my last 15 5 star visits. Before writing this I decided to read a good amount of other reviews and will try and give some honest feedback. So back to this visit……. My 1st room was on the 3rd floor as I always ask for the highest floor available. The room was perfect, but after I had unpacked I realised that the safe was no working and they couldn’t fix it until the next day. So I requested a different room as my insurance would not be valid. This room was again on the 3rd floor but felt a lot smaller and the bathroom looked very tired with an over bath shower instead of separate which I had in the previous room. It felt like a down grade so I asked for another room. This time I was given room 125 on the 1st floor. It didn’t have a bath but had a great shower, and although I wanted a bath, I was done with moving again……… I really wish that I had…. The 2 large frosted bathroom windows leave you feeling exposed as they are not fully frosted, I am sure that there are normally more pillows in the room, but the 2 small ones that I had were a poor quality. Normally I could have coped with all of this, but then for the headboard and bed to vibrate and shudder with every passing vehicle continuously kept me awake. One of the reasons I book this hotel is the gym, pool and sauna, but on this occasion a few of the gym apparatus were non operation and then the the kids swimming lessons were on when I wanted to swim. I’ve also been lucky in the past as there has always been someone in the saunas, but on this occasion I was alone with not a clue how to switch them on and no signage to explain. I’m ok with the pool being used for the children but please be clear and advertise when this will be. I think it is between 3 & 6 and that’s why I have not noticed previously. I’m due to stay again in a few days and will definitely not be staying in 125. If it wasn’t for the tremendous staff at this hotel I probably would be asking for a refund as the experience was exhausting. Breakfast is adequate as long as you know what to expect as I do.
