Altogether just a lovely experience, the feeling of being pampered by some good, old-fashioned hospitality. The house is worth a visit as a museum piece in its own right, and there are some lovely walks around the grounds, including the little wooded loch inhabited by swans and herons. The walk to the loch is short but muddy; however, the attention to detail is such that you are provided with welly boots of every size for your comfort. The staff are welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable, and, unlike some hotels, there were plenty of them. Food in the restaurant was first-class (we had dinner, breakfast and afternoon tea!), with some interesting and unusual choices. Although we had a bit of a climb to get to ours, we had a very nice room, which included books and magazines, and information about the hotel, and was very comfortable. Sometimes hotels are just stopping off places, but Cromlix is an hotel that makes you want to immerse yourself in it. We did and it was worth every penny!
