Taj Chia Kutir Resort & Spa Darjeeling

We had booked five rooms for our family. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Service by each and every member of the staff was courteous and friendly. Food in the restaurant was well prepared and delicious. Location is very nice with greenery all around being surrounded by Tea Gardens.

We had five rooms for nights for our family. Each one of us felt that the bathroom fittings were of inferior quality. Further, water flow particularly in shower was not enough. Thoroughly disappointing. Overall service by staff was very good, truly in Taj tradition.

We travelled as a family - couple and 4 yr old toddler, and it was a super fun stay. Let me break it down: Rooms: Are very spacious and large. would highly recommend a valley view room on a higher floor. We had a king bed (double) - it was large enough for all three of us to sleep on, and the four-poster bed added an old-world charm. They were very neat and clean, complete with a welcome basket of fruits and a chocolate platter. The bathrooms were large, spacious and clean. The only thing our daughter missed was having a tub, but the balcony views and a heated swimming pool on the property make up for that! Spa: The spa does not have a lot of choices and are based on time. We both took a 60-minute full body massage which was good, followed by a sauna. The spa experience was A-one! Swimming & Extracurricular: The property in itself is diverse and beautiful! We did a range of activities which were free to do or included as a part of your stay - 1. Pool - It is a heated indoor pool on the lower levels. So mind you the property is split across a lot of levels, so a lot of steps are involved. the view from the pool is beautiful. It's large and clean. They even keep kiddie inflatables to entertain the little ones. The guards are proactive. 2. Tea tasting by Makaibari - This is a unique experience you must do while here! The session happens every afternoon and usually gets filled up quite quickly, so recommend reaching on time. You get to experience and taste at least 4-5 types of beautiful Darjeeling teas & blends. This is a fun session enjoyed by both adults and kids. 3. Nature walks & trails - the property is surrounded by lush tea gardens and a lot of small walks. The flora & fauna are breathtaking. There was even an organic farm maintained by Taj with a machan which you can climb on and just take in the fresh air...absolutely blissful! 4. Kids play area & indoor games - There is a small outdoor playground with slides and swings for kids, and fully stocked indoor games rooms with carrom, air hockey, TT, etc. It was always fun to spend evening there for some quality family time. Food - This is perhaps the only aspect which is why I didn't give this property a 5-star rating. Don't get me wrong here, the food is great. But in some small aspects, it lacks the quality one expects from a brand name like Taj. For e.g. overboiled broken pasta being served, quality of confectionaries at the breakfast buffet, or salt balance in a few dishes we ordered. But where they loose on taste, they make up for in service. Not once we left a restaurant not feeling like a stuffed turkey! They would indulge my daughter's special requests and serve hot cocoa, each morning. Highly recommend having the local Darjeeling meal - it was absolutely stunning! Being a unique palate indigenous to this region, it is a meal you cannot miss. It needs to be booked in advance, so let them know a day before. We had a lovely experience in the Taj Chia Kutir.. I had gone for lunch for my wife's birthday.. The staff were extremely helpful , the food was outstanding and impeccable service !! The views from this property was also very beautiful.. i extremely loved the time i spent here.. excellent..

Right from being welcomed with a refreshing lemon & honey special brew to a warm goodbye with a special Green Tea box, we had a wonderful stay at Taj Chia Kutir, Makaibari Tea estate, Kurseong. Kid friendly, the hotel was filled with families, couples, as well as solo traveller's. Indoor pool, kids games, tombola, live flutist, evening ritual.....The list is endless.....you could also curl up with a good book from their extensive library. Khushi from Front Office, Chefs at Sonargaon & the Verandah were so open to try new ideas and went out of their way to treat us to some wonderful delicacies....but best would be the organic produce they use from their own gardens, which has a great different flavour....All ably led by the knowledgeable & helpful Operations Manager Amit Sarkar, who made us feel at home, with personalised attention, despite a packed house....The Toy train ride is avoidable, but Batasia Loop is scenic. A big shout out for the wonderful hospitality & in room comforts which all added to a most memorable stay! Thank you & God Bless

Excellent experiences, extremely helpful staff, outstanding food and impeccable service! The stay at Taj Chia Kutir was a very memorable one! The team went out of their way to help set up a tent in the room’s balcony so that my kids can enjoy! They made some amazing food and desserts! Thank you team Taj!

Before starting Special thanks to Bhaskar - from front desk. RAJA & Mukesh assigned car driver. These folks helped me to make my stay more memorable. However what i feel was this it is bit overpriced. It is situated at 3500 ft. While other popular resorts (darjeeling) are almost above 6000ft. Small property, yes views are good. But the feel of hill station comes only when it is cloudy or raining. Temprature here is 3-4° higher as compared to rest of all places. If it is a sunny day, it will not give you a hill station feeling at all. Very small property, swimming pool and spa only attraction what i felt. Room service staff sometimes act quickly and sometimes they dont care even after calling them 2-3 times. Breakfast spread is limited, and no change into it, it is same everyday. It feels like a 4 star property only. The room charges literally do not justify its value. Darjeeling, Kurseong, mirik all are very scenric and all gives a different vibe. Take ample of time and cover all the areas. 3 days stay is must. Drivers made our stay memorable, they guided every place, helped throughout our journey.

I loved the location. The ambiance, staff behaviour, service and the suite; everything was great. The food was tasty and also healthy. We loved the activities like the morning trek and evening tea tasting. The chanting ritual by monks was a great experience. Overall, it was just great. Keep it up Taj!
