Back of Beyond - Wild Haven

Back of beyond is right up there with the best of experiences! After a bumpy road we finally came to a relaxing haven with wonderful tree houses where we stayed a couple of nights. It was amazing to get that close to natur while still having a high level of comfort. Lying under the banana leaved roof listening to the wild life during the night was fantastic!

Never recommend this place. Road to this place is so bad. Only can go 4wd vehicles. Took 1 + hours to reach this hotel from sigiriya city. Hotel staff never say about it till we reach there. Hotel staff also gave poor service. Rooms are okay.

The location was spot on, it is a short walk to Pidurangala Rock and a short tuk tuk drive to Lions Rock. The room looked great, it was my first experience of sleeping in an open room in a jungle. The bathroom had an open roof too. Sadly we visited when there was a lot of heavy rain, as much as the hotel tried to keep everything dry, o found the bedding to be a little damp. The food was delicious and fresh, we enjoyed breakfast and an evening meal here. There is no alcohol served here at the hotel.

The Back of Beyond Sirigaya is a truly magical place. You're literally staying / sleeping in the jungle and get used to the relatively simple (compared to the usual holidays in a standard resort) and sustainable lifestyle fairly quickly. We saw a bunch of animals (many insects) we've never seen before and enjoyed staying and relaxing in the cute tree houses. The staff, from the manager Thusitha to Vajira, the front office manager to Nathan, Wasantha and Ananda, the housekeepers/stewards was excellent and very friendly. Thilina, the cook, also did an excellent job – if you can try the Kottu; it was the best during our entire trip.

How to get there: This is really tricky. Download the Google map before you turn from Sigiriya, after that no mobile reception. And you cannot contact the manager of the property as both parties don't have mobile reception. The road is pretty bad, you must have a 4WD. The BOB people won't be telling all this information, so ask questions and get more details. Place: It is the perfect wilderness, but keep in mind, that there are serpents, frogs, bats, rats, and massive geckos, so if you cannot handle it don't select this place. it was an average place. The treehouse looks nice, but they can maintain it better. and there are other cottages, which are not that attractive, it's like you are sleeping in a shed. Please note this is not a comfortable place. We stayed in BOB Yala, and we loved the place. But Dehi gaha ela was not up to the expectation and it was disappointing. You cannot call for any help here, once you are in your chalet or anywhere else, you are on your own, Food: Dinner was alright, average food. Breakfast was a disaster, there was another family staying and even they were complaining. I would say the dehigaha ela manager was not really looking after the property. there are missing lights, no proper electricity. and he is not taking care of the visitors. Would not recommend it.
