Brilliant stay at the Boat and Horses !! Extremely clean room , a huge cosy bed , tea , coffee , biscuits and even hot chocolate supplied each day and such lovely welcoming staff - especially Dale on reception ! Canal view family room was excellent- very roomy and no noise at all ! Restaurant attached to the hotel for a great hearty breakfast that was included in price and lunch and dinner if needed with a great selection of food !! Would I stay again - absolutely!! 10/10

Good hotel as a base cheap. Hotel is clean check in was smooth and polite. We arrived at 13hrs room ready but wanted £10 so we waited until 14hrs. WiFi was great in the whole of the hotel and was free. Room was very big and clean a little dated curtains ripped only one chair for two people and low water pressure on shower, but we don’t pay Ritz prices!! So happy with room. Hotel was quite couldnt hear rooms next door. Hotel does have a strange feel as people are living in the hotel and walking though reception with dogs shopping etc and hanging about. Breakfast was ok for £4 but due to the customers living in hotel the area was loud and some people rude. Also didn’t seem to respect the hotel like the people paying to stay there. Also people hanging around outside as they only have a room so just hanging about in reception and outside. Would I stay again Yes as good value

Holiday Inns are usually a pretty consistent experience, a notch above Premier Inn but still reasonably priced. We were looking for somewhere to stay not too far from our family while visiting and this looked OK. Arriving really late (thanks to all the daftness going on with the M60 at the moment) our first experience of the hotel was waiting around to be checked in for around 20 minutes before the night clerk found us. The venue opposite had a party going on which of course we didn't find out about until we arrived, but were too exhausted to care. Though the night clerk was extremely friendly and welcoming, he did warn us we might not get much sleep. Ironically it was nothing to do with the party (which wrapped up around 1 am) but a weird unidentified buzzing noise that seemed to start up when we settled down to sleep, almost like someone was constantly ringing the front door buzzer (though we don't think it was that). It seemed to come from inside the room. We tried all sorts, locking / unlocking the door, switching the air con off, fiddling around with the fridge. Imagine someone constantly playing a really loud version of the old board game ”Operation” all night at random time intervals and you'll get the general idea. Even with my trusty earplugs (which are usually essential in any hotel) I couldn't settle and the noise cut straight through them anyway. I think in the end we must've just passed out from sheer exhaustion! To be fair to the hotel, they were extremely apologetic (though seemed equally clueless about what the noise could have been) and did offer a discount (not a huge discount but better than a slap in the eye I guess). Even when we left the room in the morning the noise was still going on - so if the hotel ever DID find out what the heck it was and would like to clue us in, we're all ears... The rest of the experience was OK. The room and bathroom were both spotlessly clean (so kudos to the housekeeping staff), the breakfast was great (plenty of hot and cold options and a nice comfy breakfast room). Location was handy for Stockport / Marple and nearby National Trust places and parking was OK (though with the party going on we did have to park around the back of the building). This would have been a higher rated review as the staff were really helpful here - but that darned buzzing noise really knackered our chance of a good night's sleep.

I recently spent a wonderful spa break at the Mercure Norton Grange Hotel in Rochdale with my sister to celebrate my birthday weekend. We opted for the one-night dinner, bed, and breakfast package and stayed on the 15th of September, 2024. From start to finish, our experience was exceptional. We arrived around 2 pm and were checked into a spacious, clean, and beautifully appointed room, complete with a comfortable double bed, complimentary snacks, and toiletries. The robes and slippers provided were a lovely touch, making us feel instantly pampered. If you require a different size of robe, the spa staff are happy to accommodate, though you’ll need to leave something like your house or car keys as a deposit. After settling in, we changed into our swimwear, robes, and slippers and made our way to the spa centre. The waiting area was inviting, with a café offering free water and other treats. The calming décor immediately set the tone for relaxation. We both booked a 25-minute back and shoulder massage. Tammy, the therapist who did my massage, was fantastic! The atmosphere in the massage room was soothing, with soft music playing in the background and a refreshing sort of minty essence oil that Tammy released, setting a relaxing mood. She expertly worked through the tension in my back, and the experience was so good that I nearly fell asleep. Post-massage, we spent time at the pool. I enjoyed reading by the poolside, followed by a swim, and we made good use of the hot tub. The hot tub is perfectly situated to overlook the outside, and as it was raining, the contrast between the warmth of the water and the cool rain outside made it a truly serene experience. The spa also has a steam room, sauna, and other facilities that, fortunately, were not too crowded during our visit. Later, we got ready for our three-course dinner, which was included in the package and a fantastic deal! Drinks were not included, but they were extremely affordable. For our meal, we had Cajun wings as starters, followed by a pizza and Cajun chicken burger for mains, and finished with a delicious tiramisu and cheesecake for dessert. The food exceeded our expectations in terms of flavor and quality, especially for a hotel restaurant. The dining area was spotless, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. One minor drawback was that our room was located directly in front one of the lifts, which could be a bit noisy, especially for light sleepers. However, after the indulgence of the spa and a comfortable night’s sleep in the high-quality bed, we barely noticed the noise and slept soundly. The following morning, we headed down for breakfast, which was a standard continental buffet. There was a great variety of options, from fresh juices and coffee to baked goods and bread, all of which were fresh and delicious. We certainly enjoyed the meal! Before checking out, we revisited the pool and hot tub to squeeze in a bit more relaxation. The checkout process was quick an

Check in easy, lady on reception extremely helpful and polite. Observations Room 8 - doorknob and lock could do with replacing, a good tug and it could probably have come off in the hand. The bed is a small double and the mattress is a cheap one. Why hotels are not all using firm memory foam mattresses is beyond me. Quality of sleep is the most important thing when away. Thankfully only had one night here as my back would have not put up with another. Pillows (qty 3) were flat and provided little or no support and had to ask for another one which was provided but no better. No telephone to call reception even though the card in the room with information on tells you about phone. Fire escape picture not in a immediate location to see and when we did find it - it was not for that room!!! No plug in the sink. Only 1 bath and 1 hand towel provided for both of us. Had to ask for another set. Shower was ok when you eventually got hot water (had to run the shower for a good 10 minutes before any hot water ran through) - the shower was rusty and the tray that you put your shower things on had been broken off which left sharp exposed edges which could cause injury. Breakfast was nice but no alternatives were offered if you didn't want mushrooms (an additional item should be offered instead). Plenty of juice and drinks available along with cereals. Now I am no snob by any means and it should not matter how much or how little you pay for your room, you should get value for money. You should be able to have a restful nights sleep but this wasn't the case for us. I mentioned this to the chap on check out and he stated he would let the owners know. Before we left, a visit to the toilets was had, the ladies - well i have never been to a bathroom where you have to squeeze into the cubicle as they are that small that they hit the toilet!! On the back of the door was an advert stating it was the best hotel to hold a wedding etc and my first reaction was really???? Sadly I would not use this hotel again.
