The Ansonborough

I had a very relaxing stay at The Ansonborough. The room was spacious, very clean, and the bed was comfortable. The location makes it easy to access and the parking lot is very convenient. And, of course, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. I definitely recommend The Ansonborough.

Great hotel with large spacious rooms and wonderful service . Bartender was especially nice and there was live music one night and the lady performing was v good.

We had reservations for three nights at The Ansonborough Hotel in Charleston, SC, but canceled after one of the most disappointing customer service experiences we’ve ever encountered. We called 24 hours ahead of the cancellation deadline to ask for a small extension - simply one extra day to determine if travel would be possible. I recently had cancer removal surgery and was waiting for my doctor’s clearance to travel. The woman we spoke with said she’d check with her manager and have them call us back. No one ever called. When we followed up the next day, we spoke with Carrie at the front desk. She had no record of our prior call or request and immediately told us to contact *******, which made no sense since we were asking about the hotel’s own cancellation policy. Only after pressing her several times did she acknowledge this. She said she’d have her manager call us back - yet again - but couldn’t even answer a simple question about what time the 72-hour cancellation window closed. For a front desk employee not to know that is unbelievable. We explained multiple times that the clock was ticking (it was already 2:30pm EST, and we believed the 72-hour mark was 3pm EST), but she showed zero urgency or empathy. Her tone was rude, dismissive, and defensive, and she made it seem like the situation was entirely our fault. Having just come out of surgery, I was stunned at the complete lack of compassion or professionalism. Ultimately, we decided to cancel our stay altogether - because if this is how the staff treats guests before even arriving, we could only imagine what kind of experience awaited us in person. This interaction left a lasting bad impression. We will never stay at The Ansonborough Hotel again and strongly urge others to avoid it if you expect even basic courtesy or competence.

The location for my planned events was good. The atmosphere of the hotel was calm. The room was beautiful but not equipped to serve as a suite: first night the fireplace was inoperable with no kitchen supplies or tableware. Upon requesting for the tableware to eat what we purchased, the desk clerk insisted telling me the kitchen was closed and she could only provide a spoon and fork. Upon sending my Father to retrieve the tableware she provided the plates I initially asked for. Why the resistance? I requested half off my first night for non working amenities, dismissive service, and the room simply not being equipped as a suite is expected to be but half of half was granted. Not really customer focused here, at least in my experience but morning staff are friendly.

What a great stay at the Ansonborough Hotel — it was so well located, and the rooms were spacious. We loved our stay, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect! If you're looking for a hotel with a lot of history, a great rooftop, and spacious rooms, book here!

Quaint, spacious, well-appointed rooms with vintage charm, many which surround a dramatic central atrium, though the noise travels just as effectively from the lobby. A fantastic location where you can comfortably walk anywhere in downtown Charleston (weather permitting). Don't expect any views from your room (except of Harris Teeter next door), but rooftop has a peek at the harbor. Cleanliness of rooms could be better and we had trouble with sinks draining slowly and water pressure. Service was hit or miss- we had some exceptional interactions and a few clueless or borderline rude ones. Check your folio carefully as I did have to call later to correct overcharges.
