Pensión Plaza Nueva

The hotel is very basic. The bed was comfortable and the shower, etc. worked, but the rooms (apparently all identical but for the colour scheme) are fairly small and lacking a number of basic amenities (e.g. a kettle). Fine for spending a night, but not recommended for more than one night. Beware that the hotel does not have an on-site reception. We were able to access the building and room with access codes without problems thanks to prior communication with the hotel via email, but this may cause issues for some. We did, however, need to contact the hotel shortly after check-in, outside of business hours, and the sign in the room gave one number that it said was not in service outside of business hours and another emergency number that would incur exorbitant fees if used (from memory, €5/minute). This resulted in us having to spend twenty minutes creatively attempting to contact the hotel via our third-party booking website, with limited success. The location is phenomenal, right on the Plaza Nueva. You have excellent bars/restaurants and a lively a**osphere right at the front door. All three stars are for the location.

The pension is located in an unbeatable place for the beach goer. Plenty of good restaurants and bars very close by. The room was clean but it shows age. The AC was good and the room had good sunlight. The real minus was the bed. Two small twin beds just place together and not even attached to each other. So if you move at night like I do, you will end in between the beds! The beds were really small and uncomfortable. With a few changes this place would be a jewel because of the location.

Fantastic location, staff, room, very clean and secure. From the moment of booking to departure Danny and the staff were very hospitable. We’d go back in a heartbeat and highly recommend to all travellers.

It is located inside the plaza nueva which makes it an excellent place from where to walk to shops, restaurants, bars, and cafe all within the plaza

We arrived to the mention around 11:00 pm. We were looking for a bottle of water to take a medicine. Good thing that I found a bar, where I was able to buy a water. After spending on night both of us felt headache, dizziness, weakness, vomiting, and confusion. But we were able to go on walking tour. Next day we had to cancel all our tours because of our condition. I called the host to see if we can have a late checkout because we can not go anywhere and our bus was living in the evening. They told us that we need to make a new reservation, which I did. In Madrid we stayed at the beautiful hotel and for extended checkout they charged us only 40 euros, here we had to pay 125.00 euros, but on their reservation page they promised complementary drink. I don't think I have to explain there was no drinks. But our condition was getting worst. I opened a window and felt that we are brithing with carbon monoxide elevated level. Level of noise outside was around 48 decibels, because this square has 8 or 9 beautiful restaurants on yhe first floor. Locals are coming all day long to have a drink and food. I don't know that Is wrong with that room where we stayed, but I have a suspicion that carbon monoxide detectors either not working or missing. For us that was terrible experience.

Exceptional surprise in the centre of Bilbao. Check in all online, coded locks to building. Clean and well maintained. Highly recommended.

The pension is right above the bars of the plaza so it has great location. The entrance is at one of the corners. The room is spacious and clean. Every door is managed by code for it is also on the modern side. Loved it, no complaints definitely recommend.

Spotlessly clean and modern little place on a nice plaza with good pintxos options. Great for a solo traveller. Felt very safe. Helpful staff helped me to turn on the heating with instructions via WhatsApp.
