We really enjoyed our stay in Beaune and would pick Le Cedre again, most of all for the excellent service. It was well-located just outside the ramparts, an easy walk to anywhere in the old town and also easy driving to and from. The train station is a short taxi ride away, and we walked back after a day in Dijon, though I wouldn’t want to do it with luggage. Our deluxe room was spacious and comfortable, with simple modern décor. Don’t expect a luxury feel. The furnishings are pretty basic, and without any drawers at all – they are only fake fronts, on both the main cabinet and the bedside tables. But there is plentiful shelf and closet space, good bedside lighting and power outlets. They quickly provided extra hangers on request. The bathroom was good sized, clean and modern; be careful using the hand-held option in the open-ended shower or you can flood the room! They have those extra-wide sinks that take up most of the counter space in the bathroom, not ideal. But it was well-configured for hanging hand wash to dry, which was appreciated during our 6-night stay. We were also thrilled by the pre-arrival questionnaire which asked our preference regarding bedding, so we were able to have a top sheet and blanket rather than a duvet – such a rare pleasure to have that attention to detail ensuring a comfortable stay. Breakfast was adequate, a fairly typical buffet, no cooked-to-order options. Our first morning, they were understaffed and very slow to replenish items, and when more scrambled eggs finally appeared, they were not fully cooked. It did get better on subsequent mornings. It was mainly lacking in fresh fruit selection, there were some whole unpeeled items and a tiny bit of diced-up fruit salad, along with some dried fruits in syrup. We did not dine in their fine dining room, but did have dinner from the library café one night, and Sunday tea outside. The food was fine, not remarkable. Our room rate included a tasting at Maison Champy in town, which was a nice touch. The staff was also happy to assist with dining reservations and anything else we needed, like help contacting SNCF regarding a lost item. There was a welcome bottle of wine in our room. Nightly turndown service included a chocolate, along with fresh towels. On our final night, we found a lovely gift box of souvenirs, including a mustard sampler, some cakes and candies, a scented candle, some toiletries, and a teddy bear! Service is where Le Cedre really shines, and that was most evident at our departure, when our scheduled taxi was delayed. A staff member got his own car and drove us to the train station, carried our bags in, escorted us to the correct platform, and offered to wait with us til we got on the train. When we said that wasn’t necessary, he told us to call if we encounter any problems, and they will help us figure it out. I’ve stayed in much fancier places, but rarely experienced such outstanding care from a hotel!
