We were really looking forward to a relaxing two day break at Homewood to celebrate a birthday. However we have left feeling disappointed and without having a true, luxury, spa getaway experience. The best things were the bed (very comfortable), breakfast (a la carte and generous), the spa pool temperatures (lovely and hot), the views of the hills, and friendly staff. However, our room had a lot of maintenance issues and bits of damage. The shower temperature tap fell off, there was a screw on the floor from a loose door knob, the sofa was scratched and stained, huge scuffs on the walls, ripped and marked leather dressing table, and a hole with electrical cables coming out where the mirror light button should’ve been. We also booked a Marvellous Room which specifies it has a separate bath and shower and we even confirmed this via email before our stay, but were given a room with a small bathroom and combined bath and shower. The afternoon tea wasn’t worth it and the dinner was okay, nothing special. It was extremely busy with day guests on Sunday, including a few baby showers and large groups dining, which meant we waited a while to check in with no one at reception, and afternoon tea service was very slow. The spa was small and by early evening the indoor loungers were full, with two couples sharing. Staff are constantly coming and going in the spa, and undertaking cleaning jobs like wiping the windows in the afternoon which ruined the peace and relaxation. We were woken at 8:15am by a lawn mower and leaf blower and tradespeople used the pool area as a cut through to the hotel - again ruining any luxury/peaceful atmosphere. It has the potential to be a great place but unfortunately it seems money has been put in the wrong places (like the outdoor cabins with private saunas) and not to elevate the experience for hotel guests.
