Hotel a 4 stelle popolari a Arundel

A two night stay whilst visiting friends nearby. Phoned beforehand as we were going to be later arriving than anticipated but no-one on reception when we arrived. Helped by a young man from the bar area but left to find our own way to the room (flickering emergency light in corridor now fixed apparently). Room was very comfortable and clean with everything we needed although still do not understand why a second chair is not provided (apparently they have been removed following overcrowding comments by other guests - you cannot please everyone I guess). Breakfast excellent; very well cooked and well balanced portions - a wider choice of fruit salad/berries would be an improvement. Staff attentive and helpful. We did not have any evening meals. We did have an issue over early morning noise in the delivery area outside our room although the hotel has subsequently investigated and has stated that it was nothing to do with their regular bin collection. However, it may be worth avoiding room 6 on the ground floor if you are a light sleeper as deliveries do start around 6.30am. Location is good, being far enough away from Arundel not to be impacted by local traffic and noise, but close enough to be able to walk in, although plenty of free parking in town. Also good for access to Littlehampton, Bognor and the smaller locations on that stretch of coast. All in all a pleasant enough stay although not sure it justified the £300 cost.

In primo luogo, abbiamo avuto un problema con la nostra stanza che non era del tutto colpa degli hotel. Infatti, era il subcontrattore che erano lì all'epoca. Ciò ci ha portato a non rimanere nemmeno la notte e a tornare a casa per 3 ore la stessa sera. Quando ho parlato al ricevimento del problema, il manager era utile e ha spiegato che avremmo ricevuto un rimborso completo. Poi ho parlato con Georgios Lympitakis per posta elettronica e mi permetto di dirvi che era un manager fantastico e ci ha offerto un soggiorno gratuito presso il loro hotel sorella (più vicino a casa) e un rimborso completo ancora applicato. Molto scusante e ordinato le cose per noi subito. Era una pena per il soggiorno in generale, ma non posso colpire il personale, soprattutto Georgios Lympitakis, che era un piacere assoluto. Kudos a voi signore.

A single nights stay saw me not needing much - a comfortable bed and a decent meal amidst two hectic working days (between which beautiful Arundel was equidistant) was all that was required. Upon arrival my ringing of the bell at reception was greeted with a ‘yes I am here’ in a tone implying I should be psychic and know that ‘Iggy’ was lurking behind the scenes and, god forbid, not ring the bell. I checked in - clearly this was ‘too much trouble’ for mein host. Having arrived earlier than expected, I enquired if my dinner reservation for half eight could be brought forward? I was told, most certainly not. They had been busy and I would not be accommodated before my designated time. No matter…. I found my room (27 ….. 3rd floor, end of end of end of a corridor. Let’s hope no fires …. ) but unlike other reviewers the size of the ‘snug’ room felt ok to me for a single nights stay. The very dark bathroom was not aided by the mirror light bulb not working. In addition a huge plug of hair above and below the plug hole of the bath added nothing to the appeal. I went back down for dinner at 20 30, and reported to Iggy both matters. He dutifully wrote these down …. Silly old me expecting thus they would be addressed whilst I ate. Upon arrival in the (nye on) empty dining room the charming Jamie enlightened me to the fact they don’t normally serve so late. An interesting observation as the website absolutely enables one to book at this time, and Iggy has refused my request to be seated sooner, I let this pass and sat, and when Jamie came over I ordered a drink. He pushed me to order food as well and I said I’d like to have a glass of wine whilst looking at the menu. He politely told me this was not possible …..When I explained I had wanted to be seated sooner but Iggy had refused me, he was deeply apologetic and said he was off to ‘have words’ with him. He also kindly said there was no hurry. Dinner ensued. A steak that was cooked to order, but the chargrilling tasted of ‘dirty pan/grill’ and the blue cheese sauce had zero flavour. Jamie shared with me that Iggy had blatantly lied and said I’d insisted on a 20 30 when he went and met with him! Unbelievable. Upon returning to my room, my bulb was still blown and the hair monster still lurked….what was the point. At check out Iggy was surly, made no comment re the unresolved issues and acted as off everything was simply too much trouble. That aside my room was very peaceful and the bed clean and very comfortable. Oh how an individual can let a place down …… along with some pretty tired and unkempt public areas on the upper floors. Sorry, never again.

The hotel is in a good location in the middle of Arundel, near the castle and the river. We stayed on a Saturday night and also had dinner at the hotel. We stayed in room 6, which was a bit small as it’s sold as an ‘Indulgence Room’ and does not even have a wardrobe. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was fine, with a nice shower. The hotel menu was good, with a good selection of dishes, and the food was very nice.

We spent two nights at Amberley Castle. It is a remarkable quaint building oozing with history. Being a castle the rooms are perhaps a little smaller than average but that is part of the quaintness and character. The whole place is beauttifully maintained. Apart from the building itself there are gorgeous grounds and the neighbouring village of Amberley is a picture postcard delight. The staff in the hotel were exceptional, particularly Michael and Henny and the food is everything you would expect of a 5 star hotel
