We stayed there for a ski-weekend for two nights and we where impressed, what they made out of this house. Inside renovation with the hotelrooms (not to big and high but super nice and cozy) and the bar (or restaurant, depending on the day-time) and the breakfast area , all tiny with a good concept and nice owners who run that place. Here you can stay and enjoy the old town from Andermatt in a nice hotel, on the river and in walking distance to all what you need (winter and summer time). I can recommend your stay there.

We had a wonderful meal there (make a reservation as there are not a lot of tables). Delighful negroni from the bar and we each had the steak with potato au gratin and vegetables - was delish and just the right amount of food. Reasonably priced.

During the evening the was authentic Swiss music in the bar/restaurant. We like to hear this and have some nice drinks and chats with the people in the bar and behind the bar. There was a nice and cosy atmosphere in the restaurant. Furthermore the restaurant was very clean.

My wife and I spent 6 days at The River House. It is really a bed and breakfast with an attached restaurant. (The restaurant is very good.) Our room was spacious. The bed was very hard. Not to my wife's liking; but OK for me. My wife enjoyed doing yoga in the room every morning. (A yoga mat is supplied) The view from the room was nice. We enjoyed seeing the olde Gotthard Pass post coach go by every morning. Some problems with the room: the ceiling is very low; I bumped my head on the door(I'm only 5'10"); and the shower stall is small and slippery. I would advise the simple fix of putting a mat on the shower floor. The bathroom was otherwise fine. The major plus for this hotel are the hosts: Kevin and Sarah. They are truly fabulous, wonderful people...eager to help and incredibly hard working. The support staff are equally great.

Very nice / friendly hôtel. Everything is clean as expected. Room was very nice. Owners flexible and are trying to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Breakfast is good with great products. They also have a good little restaurant and a nice terrasse to be enjoyed.

We stayed a night at River House and had a perfect stay. Easy to find at the heart of Andermatt, with reserved parking a short distance away. First impressions were great, and those impressions continued throughout the stay. Welcomed by Kevin, on of the owners. Our room was really nicely appointed and homely. And immaculately clean. We loved it. We spent a pleasant couple of hours in the bar before dinner (we ate out but the hotel's food looked great) and again for a nightcap later. Slept well. Breakfast was just right and again everyone was welcoming and friendly. It is amazing to think that the hotel's main renovation was completed so long ago because it looks brand new - and that says a lot for the care and attention that is put in to running it. Thanks River House.

We travelled to Andermatt in March 2024. The River House is a very European, small hotel. Based in a 300 year old farmhouse, it not your typical hotel and visitors , particularly American visitors, should know this. The rooms have no TV's, microwaves or mini-fridges. The ceilings are low and the showers are small. But the place is very clean and unique. The beds are very comfy. A great European breakfast is served each morning of your stay. The food in the restaurant/bar attached to the hotel is delicious! Kevin and Sarah, the owners, are great hosts and run a top notch establishment. The property is centrally located in the middle of the village and it is less than a 10 minute walk to two the ski areas that at either end of the town. We would definitely return to this hotel in the future.

Beautiful place to stay while in Andermatt. The location is excellent. The views from the hotel are beautiful. The rooms are really good - very clean and comfortable. The front desk staff are friendly and the service is great. Loved staying here.

I visited Alt Apothec, the restaurant at the River House Hotel, during a recent vacation to Andermatt with my family. We ordered our meal with the help of an excellent server and enjoyed the food. While our table was quite small for three people, we still had a nice meal and conversation with the family at the table next to us. It wasn’t until the end of our visit that our experience was upsetting. The owner made negative comments about Americans, including references to the wastefulness of most Americans and their inclination to order dessert without finishing their meals. This was after we had all finished our meals and didn’t order dessert. When the restaurant’s credit card reader did not work, the owner was unwilling to take our information to process the transaction the following day. He told us Americans have walked out on their bill in the past. He raised his voice and hit his hand on our table. We were required to pay for the meal in cash. The experience was upsetting and so different from all of our other experiences in Andermatt. We visited many wonderful restaurants during our vacation and they were all outstanding. We highly recommend this ski area and hope to return, but we would not recommend Alt Apothec.
