Mercure Ayr Hotel

Super friendly staff but facilities is a bit rundown though.

We had a very enjoyable weekend at the Mercure Hotel for the Air show. Lucy at reception allocated us with a fantastic room, with a sea view (465) , thank you Lucy. Andrew at the bar, very helpful and friendly. Not to mention all the staff at breakfast, they were all great. The breakfast was delicious . The room was so clean and comfortable, we had a great sleep! Will not hesitate to visit again. Thank you all for a memorable weekend.

Tired and in need of a complete renovation. Pool out-of-order, rooms tired, chipped 1970’s hotel furniture, chipped and old bathroom ware, lack of power points, leaking toilet cistern onto the carpet, narrow doorways (what’s that about?) and badly scuffed walls are features of neglect by Mercure. A lack of adequate exhaust in the bathroom managed with signs asking guests to close the bathroom door when showering to prevent inadvertently triggering the fire-alarm. The photos on the website are nothing like the room is now, no dressing gown or slippers (as in advertorial), not even a biscuit to have with a coffee in-room. Yes, I selected the upgraded more expensive rooms on the website sold as ‘privilege rooms’! Wasted money. Needing to use a sleep machine (CPAP), I had to have extension cords draped across room to meet lack of power points. The tacit response of the management on these review sites and the continued poor reviews which follow, suggest no genuine desire to improve. Over-priced, poor standard and value, I can only recommend looking at any alternate option for a night’s accommodation. The only thing I feel we paid for and received was a room with a view!! Time to close the old-joint down or spend some capitol on an upgrade. It has certainly caused me to question the standard set for Mercure Hotels?

First impressions,looked a bit tired . But was I wrong. Staff on point at every inquiry and the two girls Megan and Lucy need an extra mention as nothing was to much trouble. Rooms spacious and very comfortable ( try for front facing , some spectacular views to be had to boot) so give it try you may be surprised

Staff were great. Hotel was average at best. I parked my car and stepped out into a vaping apparatus - the rest of the carpark was very dirty but would not take much to clean it up. As I walked up and down the stairs to my room there were weeds growing on a flat roof towards to the back of the hotel - again this would not take much to remedy. My room was on the 3 floor - as I looked out to the window - I had a lovely view BUT under my room there was a section jutting outward - again this was filty - a old pair of trainers, old bottles, weeds, rubbish etc.... terrible My room was clean and tidy - albeit tired. Great location and with some effort and elbow grease it could look a lot better.

Since my last visit about 5 or 6 years ago they have updated the reception, bar and restaurant and they are all pretty nice. Sadly they have done very little to the rooms and they are tired, especially the bathrooms which are very poor quality. Really, this is a budget quality hotel, staff are good, rooms are an OK size for a UK hotel, beds reasonably comfy, it's location is great and as a base where you won't spend much time it is fine as long as you are not looking for anything above low quality. Internet was terrible, patchy at best and never got above 2mbps which meant any video on any platform constantly lagged. Breakfast was average, what I would expect from a budget hotel. For our use I would stay here again as long as I could get it cheap enough

We live in mainland Spain and traveled to Ayr for a family wedding, booked Mercure due to its good location. My first comment has to be about reception, we received a lovely genuine friendly welcome from Lynn she was so nice and very helpful. I asked to borrow an iron & for some extra T-bags, she had them delivered to my room immediately. We had a lovely sea view room 562 , rooms are a bit tired looking and could do with a refresh, however they are spotlessly clean and I have to mention the complimentary toiletries Elemental Herbology, absolutely beautiful. So yes I would recommend this hotel, we only stayed 2 nights before flying back home so didn’t get a chance to try the restaurant.

Stayed here for one night before a long day of travelling. The hotel has free on site parking which is always great but there were no spaces available. Thankfully we did find space to park. The rooms were clean and very spacious which was great. When checking out, reception staff were very blunt and uninterested. Other than that other staff were ok and pleasant enough.

Great stay here. Very friendly staff, Darren, Donald, Lynn and Andrew were very helpful. Stayed here for a few weeks and had no problems. The location is perfect, near the beach, restaurants, bars, airport and the town. I would definitely stay here again.
