Excellent accommodation after a long hike on the Downs. Great bath and shower, comfortable beds and warm rooms to greet us. Water, tea/coffee facilities. We walked to the Barleymow for a great dinner in the evening. Fantastic breakfast from very kind hosts in the morning to set us up for the hike to Eastbourne. Throughly recommend.

We stayed here for one night. The accommodation was very comfortable and immaculately clean. Our accommodation had a private decking area overlooking the beautiful downs. Breakfast was delicious and nicely presented. The hosts David and Val were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend staying but for more than 1 night if you can.

Good welcome nice room and bathroom In room tea and coffee fine Room had sofa and desk so comfortable Really nice breakfast with booked times Recommend particularly if going to Glynebourne as pretty close Has good parking and down a quiet road

Stayed here to go to Charleston festival. Fabulous location for that and close for other places like Lewes and the coast. Our hosts were charming and very knowledgeable about the area, so we visited other attractions while here. Excellent breakfast as well.

I stayed in the Beacon view on the 28th to the 29th of June on my solo trip with my dog, this place was amazing with beautiful view and stunning accommodation and very dog friendly, The owners were wonderful and a life saver as my phone charger stopped working so they had a spare so I could charge my phone as I needed my OS maps as I was walking the south downs way, honestly will definitely be back! Thankyou

Came here after coming off the hills on the second day of walking along the South Downs Way. Not too far from the path and along a metalled road which is very pleasant after a hard day on rough ground. Room was the double cabin 'Hikers' Rest 1' which had an en-suite. Snug bordering on cramped but the bathroom was a good size. The accommodation itself is in a very old pub which is now a guesthouse. Breakfast is very nice and served in the pub's old dining room. Well worth £10. The two owners couldn't be more helpful and sent the instructions to get into the room in advance as well as recommending a nice pub. There are a couple a fair walk away, about 20-30 mins one way. Cricketer's was excellent and worth the extra mile or so. We were very kindly given a lift to the station the next day as well which saved a fortune on a cab. I will seriously consider coming again before walking along the final section to Eastbourne. Thanks!

We had such a lovely stay here whilst on a family weekend for my Birthday. The accommodation was spotlessly clean with views over the pretty garden. We stayed in Hikers Rest One which is a little self contained building in the garden. Just a bed and a bathroom but perfect for us for one night and very warm with a comfy bed. Alciston nestles under the South Downs and is a perfect location if you like to walk. The owners Dave and Val are very accommodating and cooked us a fantastic breakfast. Also dogfriendly, which is always important for us.

The Rose Cottage Inn was our base for a week while attending Glyndebourne and visiting the Sussex countryside. The location (in the charming village of Alciston) could not have been better, and our room (in the former pub’s front parlour) was clean, cozy, and well-appointed. We chose to have breakfast each morning, which was always delicious, filling, and cooked to order. Our hosts, David and Val, were absolutely lovely, and generous with advice, information and just about anything else we needed during our stay. We especially enjoyed watching the sun set over the South Downs from the rear garden (the weather was particularly fine during our stay) and hearing the horses clip-clopping past our window in the morning. So glad we chose to stay at The Rose Cottage during our trip, and hope to return on future visits to Glyndebourne and the surrounding area!
