Uday Backwater Resort

It was just for an overnight stay, unfortunately. The food was great and the room was well-appointed (including a fridge), and furnishings were good. My balcony overlooked the garden and to the water beyond - I think they probably all do. Best of all was the friendly and courteous service, from all staff, throughout my stay. A massage at the Spa was a real treat (thank you, Lakshmi). And the housekeeping service was great, with clean and pressed laundry returned quickly. If I had another opportunity, I'd gladly stay at Uday Backwater Resort at Alappuzha again - for longer next time.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and the environment was so pleasant... Food can be better rest everything was good... Backwaters view was awesome though and room was well organised. The hotel is aesthetically pleasing and staff is welcoming.....

So this is not a 5 star resort and not sure how they earned that rating. I would consider it more a 3 star, but they have many issues to address. The pros are the great views of the backwaters and the restaurant. They also have two adorable house dogs housed near the entrance. The cons were many - The rooms are outdated and beds were not comfortable. There were no activities available during our stay. The pool was nice, however guests were swimming fully clothed in pajamas or sweatpants/sweatshirts, which was off putting. As previously mentioned the road to the hotel is rough and very narrow. Apart from the restaurant staff, who were incredible, the remaining staff we encountered were not helpful. During their high tea time there were no chairs available so my wife took a stack of folding chairs that were in the garden area to sit. She was unable to separate the chairs without difficulty, but no staff member intervened to help and stood their watching her struggle. Finally at checkout one of the staff members asked us to write a Google review and asked if she could pull up the link on our phone. When we obliged, she proceeded to complete the review on her own and gave the resort a 5 star rating. We later deleted the review, however no 5 star resort would need to stoop to such measures to preserve their rating.
