Very busy, and you need a car to get there. Lots of walking in the hills around, and the view is splendid. Go early or late if you can.

Wonderful scenery
Nice trek up the hill to the "throne" cut out of a massive granite rock formation. We saw Roe deer along the path we took and the woodpeckers were busy with their rat-ta-tat search for tree insects. ...

Well worth the drive to get the views of El Escorial and the mountains
Located SW of El Escorial and cut into the granite hill for Felipe 2nd to watch the building take place.
