Excellent informative visitor center
Lots of great exhibits, plenty of interactive exhibits for kids, really good film about Alaska as well

A quick stop in the rain
We stopped here before heading into Whittier in the rain. It was a nice spot to explore while waiting for our turn to drive into Whittier.

Nice Visitor Center with clean bathroom facilities. If you have a National Parks Pass you can enter the museum portion free of charge, otherwise to enter the museum - which has some decent viewing opp...

Call ahead to confirm hours of operation
We arrived at 12:50, only to find they were closing at 1pm. We couldn’t look around, or view exhibits. They turned the lights out promptly at 1pm. Sign on the door said they are short staffed.

Closed for the winter
Located on the shores of Portage Lake, in the beautiful Portage Valley area, the visitor center is, unfortunately, closed for the winter. It will reopen the end of May 2023.
