We visited Makhuntseti Waterfall in July on the way to the mountains. It's a beautiful spot, the water is powerful and the noise is so loud you have to raise your voice to talk. There's a bridge and a viewing platform nearby, and you can go down closer to the water for good photos. Entry is free and it's open 24/7, but it's better to come in the morning — by noon the crowds and tour buses arrive. The only thing to keep in mind: after rain the stones are slippery, and the water is ice cold, so I wouldn't risk swimming. If you're coming from Batumi, it's easy to combine with the fortress and the canyons — makes for a great day out. Recommended.
