Stayed here over 30 years ago and whilst the entrance is just as impressive the service and attitude of staff is very different. We only stayed one night thank heavens, slept badly in a room out the back which had a toilet that didn’t flush well and sheets that didn’t feel or look fresh. When we checked in we must have been told what time breakfast was served but didn’t really absorb it anyway we needed to leave pretty early in the morning and found ourselves ready by 07.00 to be told quite abruptly that cooked breakfast would not be available until 07.30. We apologised as we only needed to grab a tea and yogurt. As we sat down, a lady staff member saw us sitting started to huff and puff as we were really in her way making us feel really uncomfortable. The same lady checked us out as i explained that we did not know about breakfast timings. She harshly commented that we would have been told when we checked in and it certainly is written in the bedroom. Thanks for the telling off! Surely There has to be a nicer way of addressing your clientele. We didn’t disturb you as we only had a cold breakfast anyway. Hope you had a better day lady.

Went for food with my son Was terrible cold steak pie hard chips awful experience when we told the waitress the second pie was not much better Incapable of heating a pie to correct temperature And when we left still charged us full price terrible experience would not recommend to anyone

Although they claim to be a 5 star venue our two night stay was closer to average/acceptable. The hotel is perfectly located for a short city break, but without anywhere to store clothes, other than a wardrobe, you have to live with your bags on the floor which makes even getting to the coffee/kettle an obstacle course. The exterior space is very noisy due to the location of their bins and a late-night outside bar. It quietened down at 12.45am. We would certainly return to York but sadly not at The Judge's Lodging.

Very small room in the back with a view over the roofs filled with pigeon droppings... The hotel is very nicely situated in the heart of York, excellent to access everything. However the room was super small and very warm (we were there on one of the warmest weeks of the summer) and no air conditioning, just a fan. I found it difficult to sleep. The room was also situated just above where the bar empties their bottles after 23!! The outdoor area was nice and very busy on the days we were there as it was sunny and warm.

When I checked in yesterday, the woman at the desk was so kind and helpful. My room was amazing! The hotel was amazing! I was so comfortable that I slept through breakfast and checked out at 11:00. I had hoped to leave early morning for site seeing, but I was just so comfortable. When I got to the desk to check out, I tried to express how much I loved the hotel, but the lady at the desk interrupted me and asked for payment. I tapped my card and tried to finish what I was saying, but then she yelled the payment was denied. I then insert my card and try to tell her yet again that I loved the hotel, but she interrupted me again and said, "Here's your copy." SO RUDE! She could care less! Sad that I had her to contend with on my way out from my lovely stay.

Gorgeous room and view.Super size bed n pillows. Lovely facilities . Was close to the bars and restaurants and train station. Spotlessly clean and great exytas like toiletries,robes,slippers. We will be back. Staff were very welcoming and friendly x

Fantastic location if you want a hotel in the centre of York within walking distance to everything. Rooms were nice and clean and hotel very grand with lots of quirky original features. Check in was very good and we managed to get into our room an hour early which is always nice. Breakfast was good once served but the self selection fruit etc and juices were quite limited and appeared empty most of the time, we did ask a couple of times but feel this is something that could be kept on top of. Other than that all good.
