KKarenlee kSono una viaggiante solo femminile dall'America. Il proprietario e la famiglia mi hanno preso cura di me. Come se fossi la loro famiglia e non solo un ospite. Il proprietario mi ha portato nella zona di scena Mao, mi ha aiutato a trovare la zona di biglietto, e poi è tornato a casa. Poi mi ha condotto a un ristorante per cena, dove ho incontrato anche il suo carino cane Wang Wang, e poi mi ha portato alla serata musicale su Mao, che era bello vedere nemmeno parlare cinese. Il mio treno di partenza era tardi il pomeriggio, ma mi hanno permesso di riposare solo nella sala d’albergo e nel giardino. Mi hanno dato tè, frutta e torta mentre aspettavo. Anche mi hanno offerto di guidare al treno! così gentile. così gentile. E la stanza dell’hotel era molto comoda. Resta qui! Ps. The serve really good food there whenever you want it! The family was really friendly and I got on really well with them and when I left the father drove me to the train station and the whole family jumped in to join me for the ride!

安安安的半It's difficult to overstate the warmth and hospitality provided by the people who operate this small, lovely hotel. From the minute I booked until we were dropped back at the train station, the staff at the hotel made sure that we enjoyed a pleasant stay in Shaoshan. They arranged dinner, tickets for the local show, and a tourguide for yhe local sites. Highly recommended!

UUtente ospiteThe couple running this renovated traditional home in Mao's home village are very attentive to guests' needs, even on the busiest day of the year, December 26th, Chairman Mao's birthday. My partner was coming down with a cold and got some ginger soup to drink. Additionally, when we screwed up our schedule and almost couldn't make our train out of Shaoshan, with no train available to reschedule, the couple arranged for the husband to drive us to the station for little more than gas money. It's up a slight hill from the other inns and allows one to get a bit of peace and quiet, again, even on the busiest day of the year, when Shaoshan is very worth a visit for anyone interested in Mao Zedong's legacy, given the number of Chinese people who show up to sing, dance, wave various flags and give speeches. Don't make our mistake and schedule the Chairman Mao memorial hall for a full visit instead of rushing though it. The exhibit is full of pictures and dioramas and has English captions for most things.
I also wish we'd had time to explore the pagoda on the hill behind the guesthouse.

UUtente ospiteI seldom share my experiences in Chinese hotels. That is a mistake. China’s hotels are among the world’s most comfortable and reasonably priced. I am now in the home of chairman Mao and staying at the very comfortable Jianguo hotel. After arriving in Shaoshan (over 38 years since my last visit), I have been overwhelmed by the friendliness of the local people and the staff at the Jianguo hotel. In what may be called one of the more politically important destinations in China, I have found open arms and smiles. My American friends can learn something from this. I am clearly not a local but, even during this time of geopolitical tension, I am receiving nothing less than genuine friendship, no animosity, and this makes me feel optimistic. I hope that we in the United States can learn from the Chinese people’s example. Thank you, everybody at the Jianguo Hotel. including Liu Zheng who personally took me to Chairman Mao’s residence this morning. He offered to do this while eating dinner in the hotel restaurant last night (please try the 香椿拌豆腐). He introduced me to the park’s director and facilitated everything to make this visit so special. Liu Jingli just treated me to lunch and is driving me to the train station. This kind of service I’ve never received before in my hundred plus countries and I think that it is important that we share these stories with the outside world. This hospitality, too, is an essential part of China. (I would argue it is even more real than the news stories we receive out of Washington DC.) Chairman Mao’s home will forever echo with not just memories of the past but optimism of a more respectful and inclusive future.
