We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights on the dinner, bed and breakfast package. I had read mixed reviews before staying and they are in the most part accurate. What’s good The room was spectacular, a Windermere lake view room was worth every penny. Spotlessly clean with all facilities you’d expect from a 5 star hotel. General views of Lake Windermere Lounge and bar areas, all very welcoming and cosy, perfect for a romantic break. Private cinema, we found it by chance but it was lovely and should be promoted. We loved it. What to be aware of It’s expensive, despite getting an allowance of £75 per person for an evening meal this goes very quickly, with main courses at £30-£50 and a very average prawn cocktail costing £25. Service is charged on every meal and of course you can decline to pay this but feels a bit of a con that you get a “generous” £75 per person allowance which you then pay a hefty service fee on. Not such a good deal after all. The food is average, it all sounded amazing but when it came it was just okay. I ordered the lamb chop and it was 60% fat, the meat however was beautiful. But there wasn’t much of it. The service was very hit and miss. Reception team were amazing, always available and friendly. The bar and restaurant staff not so great, lovely people just not the greatest at remembering orders or being able to cope when things got busy. Also there was rarely any music playing which meant on several occasions you could hear staff discussing guests or issues within the team. The aim of the weekend was to relax and unwind and we definitely did that but probably wouldn’t return. Unless we won the lottery.
