Sea Dragon Kangaroo Island

The location is remote and far away from the main island points of interest ( nearly 2 hours drive to see Remarkable Rocks). Staff is friendly, room ha a nice view but it’s average (more a 3 stars hotel than a luxury experience they advertised). The most disappointing is the food: breakfast is basic, lunch box during a full day excursion was ridiculous and for dinner we only had a choice of 2 modest servings; furthermore the food was undercooked and very bland ( we asked in alternative a bowl of rice and the told us they didn’t have it … pathetic!) This is advertised and priced as a luxury location, the reality is more that of 3 stars hotel.

LOVED our time at Sea Dragon. The general manager Jane is incredible and the entire team is so welcoming and fun. The food was delicious and the beach was serene. Roos everywhere and so much more were enjoyed for our 2 night stay. Highly recommend!

Sea Dragon is an amazing property in a timeless space with soul-stirring ocean views in a stunning coastal setting. The multicultural staff is extremely attentive, well-trained and incredibly friendly and caring. Jane, the new manager, is the soul of Sea Dragon. She exudes a communicative energy that inspires the staff around her. We had a fabulous experience with great food, good wine and a one and a half day nature/wildlife tour that we would strongly recommend. Paul, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the island, the wildlife and the 2020 bushfires that burnt 40% of the island. Without him, we wouldn't have seen a family of koalas resting in the trees in an unlikely location along the road. The icing on the cake is the wildlife overrunning the property with lots of kangaroos at dawn and dusk.

We rented a car to drive to Kangaroo Island, a must if you are in Australia, an hour driving distance from Adelaide to Cape Jervis Penneshaw, take the ferry and stay ant this marvelous venue. We enjoy the spacious villa, in the middle of a small peninsula just 20 minutes’ drive from the Harbor. Excellent attention, beautiful décor and with a personal touch constructed venue. We enjoy the attention offered, the excellent dinners and breakfast. Beside he very individual beach, you enjoy all Kangaroos that are in the parc and surroundings of the hotel, almost to touch and enjoy this species. A tour, also organized by the hotel to visit the entire island is a must, you will enjoy a beautiful island, beaches and nature but also the unique opportunity to walk through Seal Bay conservation park and enjoy the nature.

Our stay at Sea Dragon was amazing. Kangaroo island is a special place where nature is center stage and landscapes are difficult to forget. The staff at sea dragon go the extra mile to make sure your experience is unique. Our room was very comfortable with a design that projects you to the terrace and a breathtaking view of the bay. Very often kangaroos or wallabies were snacking just under the terrace. The restaurant is cozy, full window walls on the bay, delicious food and ample wine selection. The staff is super friendly and the level of service is top. We would have not enjoyed so much our stay or seen so much or the island without the help of the staff. Whether it was an excursion or something you forgot in the room, they were always there to make everything easy for you and just let you enjoy the beauty of the island, which now feels like home. My wife and I stayed here 3 nights in January ( apologies for the delayed review). All meals and alcoholic beverages included in the daily rate which is expensive but worth every cent Karen the owner is a poppet and runs a very efficient operation. The staff are friendly and very competent The food is first class innovative and focuses on local ingredients wherever possible. The lime ant pie came from Adelaide ! ( it was delish) the wines are locally sourced too. The views from the restaurant are outstanding. If you want to see kangaroos this is the place! The rooms are well appointed with all modern appliances and spacious showers. Each bungalow has its own terrace with views of the ocean The day tours ( included in the price) are very interesting. The guides are knowledgeable you learn a lot about island culture, the environment, economy , wildlife. But be prepared for long days in the mini-bus. The island if I recall is about 150 km long and 50 km north to south. On the wildlife excursion you cover more than 300 km in a day if you are a nature lover it’s worth every km! We saw kangaroos, koalas and seals ( even though 90 per cent of the koala population was wiped out in the 2021-22 bush fires). It’s amazing to see how fast flora and fauna is regenerating on the island after the fires. The second tour is a tasting tour which is also well worth the time. And the island distillery produces some of the best gin I have tasted). I would definitely go back!
