We stayed here for a week (2 adults and 2 children: 12 and 9) to ski for half term; I’d read some mixed reviews so was dubious, but am relieved to say the concerns were unwarranted. The hotel was great, staff amazing- Emily came and chatted to us at the dinner table every evening - staff in the restaurant were friendly and room service very good. We were happy with the food, 3 options plus a children’s option (although our 2 mainly chose from the adults menu); soups were good, vegetarian options very good and food was tasty. Only negative was that they don’t offer tap water and a bottle is eur5.90, as we discovered when we got our bar bill at the end of the week. The room (we were in the new part but an accessible room so possibly a bit bigger than usual) was nice - big bathroom with bath and shower and plenty of hot water, the beds were comfy - even the sofa bed - and spacious and we had a door leading outside to a wooden swing (we were on the ground floor). It was nice to stand out in the air. Room possibly a little too warm for me, but we opened the window at night, which was perfect. The additional facilities were great: pool, table tennis, darts and a play room for little ones, plus a gym and 2 swimming pools. My only criticism of the whole hotel was that the pool for children was cold whereas the adult pool was warm. To be fair, it didn’t stop lots of children going in their pool but it was too cold for me and we did end up taking them into the adults pool when there were other children in there (sorry Emily!) but made sure they were calm and respectful of other adults who wanted to swim. The hotel in in a smallish village and the walk to the meeting point for ski school and the gondola took 10mins (if walking slowly), we didn’t have much snow, so the roads were clear therefore it would take longer in deep snow with young children. I strongly advise leaving boots and skis at the ski hire shop next to the carpark by the gondola - eur 3 per day per person and boots are dried overnight. So much easier walking to the slopes without ski boots. The ladies in the shop by Hotel Austria were lovely and very helpful when my husband and I ended up needed new goggles and helmets (having left them inside our board bags for 12 years!). Otherwise there are very few shops in the village but there is a Spar to stock up on essentials if needed. In summary, good food, lovely staff and good location, would recommend.
