My elderly mum and I chose to stay at Trimstone because it is close to my brother's home in Braunton, close to the beaches of Woolacoombe and Ilfracoombe, and yet still secluded; surrounded by beautiful countryside and gardens. Disabled access was also important for us, and I was able to book us a ground floor room each, next to the car park and with views of the beautiful birds living at the hotel (from an accessible private patio). The swimming pool was warm, clean and also very close to our rooms. I didn't try the sauna or gym - maybe next time! Breakfast was delicious, home cooked and filling. We also had a great cream tea, with Rhianne's freshly baked (huge) scones still warm. Yes, Trimstone is old fashioned, but the family and staff are working hard to develop and maintain this wonderful old piece of history (which is also their home). The price for our stay was a lot less than in nearby beach front hotels, and we felt is was well worth what we paid. For us, the feeling of being welcomed and valued guests was the most important factor. In any case, our rooms were comfortable and in good working order, and we enjoyed playing pool in the games room. . Thank you to everyone at Trimstone, and especially to Rhianne, who was on hand day and night and works tirelessly! We will be visiting again and feel we have found a 'home from home' for our future visits to North Devon.
