Travel Charme Gothisches Haus

After a gap of 6 years we weren't sure that the hotel would be as lovely as we remembered...but it was. Comfort and quality are a priority everywhere, and rooms are well equipped; ours was at the back overlooking the garden, and was calm as a result. Breakfast and evening meals are generous and delicious, and the restaurant and bar staff always smiling and willing to go the extra mile. The location right in the centre of town is excellent, and there are suggestions in the daily bulletin for walks and places to visit during your stay; the nearest steam railway station is just 10 minutes' walk away, the castle a more challenging climb (or a cheat's ride)...if you can drag yourselves away from the main square and the hotel, that is.

Excellent hotel ideally located on the central market square, of which we had great views from our spacious junior suite (it can be a bit noisy when they are setting things up outside early morning). Breakfasts are fabulous, with a particularly good selection of mueslis and cheeses, and a large slab of creamy butter tabled each morning. Coffee arrives instantly at your table, and service is speedy and efficient. We dined twice in the hotel's restaurant in the evening, and found it to be high quality, with interesting local produce (pott-suss was really tasty) and, slightly surprisingly, very good German red wine. Barman Andy was one of the best we've encountered - fast, lively and friendly, with a good menory for previous choices, and the ability to produce great cocktails, whether on the menu or not. Most of the staff spoke good English, which took the stress away from relying on my schoolboy German. Only criticism is that we'd have appreciated a bit of help getting our luggage to our room , as it was a long way from reception and involved corridor steps (though there is a lift fortunately). Wernigerode is a good base for the Harz region: we managed to ascend der Brocken (one of us actually walking!), rode the Brockenbahn and the Bimmelbahn, and took a trouble-free bus ride to Quedlinburg, a World Heritage site which is well worth a visit.

Location good friendly staff nice and clean, but Air condition couldn't cool down the room, 25 c all the time. Minibar fridge couldn't cool either. We changed room but same problems in second room. That ruined a otherwise nice stay. Expensive according to standard.

We stayed at the Gothisches for one night during Weinachten Markt. The parking was easy to find and literally a few steps to lower level entrance. The hotel itself is totally upscale in a good way. Our room was very nice and had a view of the market. When you exit through the front door of the hotel you are right in the market square with it’s beautiful architecture. After dinner we enjoyed nightcaps at the lively bar area. We found the bartender exceptionally friendly & professional. The village itself is quite nice and had a lot of nice stores in addition to the market kiosks. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.

Ein sehr schönes Haus, mit Liebe zum Detail eingerichtet, mit leckerem Frühstück, geräumigen Zimmern, fantastisch, sehr zentral gelegen. Danke für ein wunderschönes Wochenende in einem schönen Haus, in einer schönen, mittelalterlichen Stadt.

Das Servicepersonal ist sehr zuvorkommend und aufmerksam.Unser Zimmer hatte eine top Lage und alles war sauber und ordentlich.Das Frühstück hätte nicht besser sein können,so viel Auswahl an Essen und Getränken. Ganz besonders hervorzuheben sind die Räumlichkeiten des Restaurants.Freie Platzwahl und man konnte die Ruhe genießen! Auch der Spa Bereich ist ausreichend und sauber. Das Parkhaus befindet sich direkt links vom Hotel.Toll geregelt. Wir kommen definitiv wieder!!!
