Matanivusi Beach Eco Resort

I recently went to Fiji & stayed at Matanivusi Beach Eco Resort & had a wonderful experience. Brian, Donna & the staff do an amazing job. The resort itself is absolutely beautiful & it’s great to leave your western baggage at the door & switch off. As for the surf Frigates was pretty much pumping the whole time I was there. I also surfed a local reef called Serua Lefts which turned on one morning. The boat ride to Frigates takes roughly 50mins & you get to see an array of wildlife from sea birds to dolphins & pilot whales. You spend the day out there in the boat surfing, eating & taking snaps. On the way home the beers flow & we trawled for fish. It was great to head back with a freshly caught yellow fin of Spanish mackerel for post surf & arvo beer snack of sashimi. Evening beers & cocktails flow with dinner while we all sat around talking in a communal dinning room. The food was great as is the rooms. The kava night on the Saturday followed by a buffet of lovo (traditional Fijian cooking method) was a highlight. There’s so much to do but if you wanna do nothing this is the place. The resort is an all inclusive deal so your daily boat excursions to surfing reefs are included. The word eco gets thrown around a lot but Matanivusi is exactly that. They do provide a tour of the resort explaining how they run things & why they got their certification. I can’t recommend Matanivusi enough

Brian McDonald, the owner, immediately exhibited concerning verbal assaultive behavior towards me when I entered his property to learn more about this “resort” as a prospective guest. Brian himself should focus on prioritizing both assimilating with and exhibiting Fijian culture when interacting with members of the public; being confrontational and bringing cocky attitudes of curious travelers doesn’t really align with the resort’s vision. When I say I was looking around, I was looking around. He should try to be more humble to all members of society (including myself), with him as a foreigner in a non-native land. His staff on the other hand are WONDERFUL and HOSPITABLE. I’d avoid this place and wish Brian would take a few chill pills.

Matanivusi is secluded & quiet, beside a beautiful lagoon, surrounded by nature. Units are clean, updated, bright. Meals are local & fresh, with excellent seafood & baked goods. Bar service prompt. Poolside vibe relaxed. Local tours & water activities convenient, fun. Founded by surfers, Matanivusi offers a top-tier Fiji surfing experience. Their guides put us on the right breaks at the right time, and ensured we got waves. While other boats puttered around, we flew out to the breaks on high-powered twin-engine catamarans, arriving at the best reefs before anyone. Can't wait to return !!JHH, Mill Valley California

Last minute booking for a winter break away. I emailed direct as wanted to ensure there was a yoga instructor onsite during my dates. Very communicative and super easy to deal with - the booking process was straight forward. It appears you can only book direct and not via a 3rd party - fine by me. Transfer from Nadi Airport was 2.5-3hrs - easy check in and that reflected my 5 day stay. All staff acknowledged me by name, were welcoming and nothing was a problem. The room was super clean and tidy with daily service. Meals were outstanding and easily amended to suit dietary requirements. Great pool and hot tub. The yoga was led by Sarah and it was great. She adapted class depending on participants and it varied each time. I did not surf but everyone appeared impressed with services and conditions. I did snorkel 1 day - it was fine - not amazing but was told I'd missed out on the better location. Since my return to NZ, I've spread the word and would highly recommend, solo's, friend's, couples and families - all were in attendance during my stay. Thank you so much team and I hope to return on my next Fiji break.

A fantastic place to surf, fish and catch up with some friends for the week. Wonderful staff, good food, great scenery and zero hassles! We were able to do as little or as much as we liked and were kept entertained even when the waves weren't firing. Can't wait to get back there

Matanivusi is a splurge and a bit off the beaten track (about 3hours from Nadi, slightly less from Suva) but well worth the effort to get there and worth every penny. The only thing warmer than the weather are the wonderful staff. Being a small resort (only 12 villas) they know everyone by first name. The customer service is excellent, the meals are outstanding and the villas are beautiful. There was plenty of activities to do, or just chill by the pool or read on your private deck. Simply heaven for surfers and yogis. The most picturesque yoga studio Ive ever had the pleasure of practicing in. Our first time staying there - we hope to go back again.
