Hôtel Le Versailles

This was our least favourite (and by far the most expensive) of the three hotels we stayed at during our Cote d'Azur holiday. The view from the room was very nice but that's about it. Staff were unfriendly and stand-offish, throughout our stay it felt like they only wanted to do the absolute minimum for guests. The guy at check-in was very cold and unwelcoming, plus we were surprised to be required to pay the full amount for our stay in advance. We asked about dinner in the restaurant but he didn't know if it would be open that evening, said it would depend if the chef turned up! Not exactly encouraging so we went out. And the next night was Monday so it was closed anyway. Hotel has an 'upside-down' layout with reception at street level and the rooms on several levels below. It all looks great on the website and the reception area is the nicest part as it's modern and light, but the other floors are dark and dingy with long narrow corridors leading to the rooms. Very uninviting with nothing done to brighten things up. Our room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. However the furnishings were generally tired and there were signs of poor maintenance, e.g. the laminate flooring was broken and lifting in places. Tatty curtains barely covered the window. Air conditioning was ineffective and hardly cooled the room. Shower in bathroom sprayed water all over the floor. Had asked in advance for a kettle and fridge which were provided, but no milk available. Even worse no drinking water was available. Most hotels now provide water dispensers on each floor or at least have one in reception. Breakfast was a rip-off. Continental breakfast = 24 Euros for 2 people and consisted of 1 croissant, 1 pain au chocolate and a couple of bits of dry bread. We joked about having to fight over who got to eat what! No fruit, yoghurt, cereal, cheese or cold meat or anything else included. You had to pay extra for everything. Very poor. Late check out (only to 3pm) = 50 Euros. When leaving nobody asked if our stay was ok and it just seemed that they didn't care. Definitely wouldn't recommend or stay there again.

We booked here last minute - which was great. Parking was free which makes a difference to most places and our balcony had a beautiful view of the harbour. The rooms are modern, clean and a decent size, with maids coming in each day to change bedding and towels. The pool area is small but peaceful and lovely - we came in September so out of season. 10 minute walk down the hill to the old town and tonnes of beautiful restaurants. We included breakfast, which if i’m honest was nice but definitely not worth the money. You got 1 pastry each, and 1 bread roll with an orange juice and coffee or tea. Not what we expected but was ok, nice but just different to other breakfasts we’re used to getting in hotels around France & other places. Staff were friendly, and we felt safe. Very handy for nice & villefranche sur-mer centre.

Absolute lovely Hotel the top of the cliff overlooking the bay of France tremendous swimming pool beautiful room overlooking the bay. Great breakfast lovely staff superb location although it is a bit of a walk into the main town but fantastic swimming pool facilities et cetera et cetera I will definitely be with revisiting this place.

Lovely hotel - staff helpful and friendly - would recommend. Great bay views from room and restaurants. Walking distance to sites and cafes. Good car parking but close to bus stop and well serviced by Uber/taxis. Speak English so easy for communications

Gorgeous views from the room and balcony, an inviting pool with comfortable lounge chairs, friendly people at the front desk, and a delicious breakfast. What's not to like? Also, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was spacious, and there was plenty of storage space. The housekeeping staff did an excellent job of cleaning the room every day as well. In short, Le Versailles is a wonderful hotel, and we're already planning a return stay for next year! Tip: There's a #15 bus stop just across from the hotel which will take you to the Nice Port in ten minutes, and from there you can walk along the quay to the Cours Saleya in Nice's Old Town (getting the bus tickets is a bit tricky, though--it's best to buy them at the Nice train station or the airport).
