The reviews we saw before booking were excellent so our expectations were high but reality soon brought us back to earth. We booked via BlueBay Travel for 10days, opting for Ifuru as I appreciated the offer of a free upgrade & a $500 credit towards Skydiving. The fact the island had it's own airport suggested that transfer times would be short as both Domestic & Sea Plane options would be available and the allure of all the premium brand drinks & A La Carte restaurants being included in the AI package sealed the deal for us. We are use to 5 Star All Inclusive Hotels & have stayed at many resorts including in the Maldives, Dominican Republic, Dubai and Mexico; that were simply fabulous. 5 Star AI Resorts in Egypt & Morocco were even far better than Ifuru. Let's get to the positives; first & foremost is the staff who were simply the best. We were lucky as we benefitted from a short transfer time but many other guests had to wait 5 to 6 hours in Male. All the guests we met were great fun and although there is only a DJ for evening entertainment we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There are a number of fruit bats that we loved watching & colourful geckos / lizards that enjoyed sharing the outside facilities. We had some great weather & the beach was kept well groomed. We had a coupe of great meals in the Palm Grill & Waterfront but service was always slow. Unfortunately I have to now highlight the negatives: after booking we received notice (in the small print) that Skydiving was not possible & on arrival informed that due to poor weather conditions Scuba was unlikely but told we would be informed if this changed (this never happened) . We soon discovered that All Inclusive Premium drinks does not mean all premium drinks are included - we were given a menu of what was included & our usual tipples were not (Black Label Whisky, Tia Maria, Baileys . . . . . ). On contacting BlueBay they initially responded to confirm all drinks were included but a couple of days later retracted this statement. This appeared to be a recent change as some guests we met told us that said drinks were included the week before our arrival, as they had ordered them. Now to the A LA Carte's, at time of booking these were open every day however they were only open on specific days meaning you were forced to use the Social House (Buffet). The food was hit & miss at all restaurants but by far the worst was the Teppanyaki which had a minimum additional fee (again not mentioned at time of booking). We have had many Teppanyaki show meals but it was so bad & service so slow I felt forced to complain to the GM whose only comment was to apologies as most chiefs on the island had only been working there for two months. The snorkelling was very poor as the main reef is far away from shore. The drop from beach to sea was painful so please take sea shoes with you or you will risk cutting your feet. The children play area was undergoing refurbishment & we have recently found out that Skyd
