If you ever imagined staying in the mythical place known as Shangri-La, book a suite at the Ville de Mont Mountain Resort. After driving through the horror of Sa Pa Town, which is one of the most disgusting places on our planet, Ville de Mont emerged like an oasis in a tacky desert. Once in our Rock 7 suite, my breath was taken away by the mind boggling views. I have traveled all over the world and stayed in five star hotels in six continents. Never have I experienced the vistas on display at Ville de Mont. Our suite was rustic elegance, everything curated to represent the indigenous peoples of Lao Cai Provence. It was luxurious, with a gorgeous fireplace, great AC, and a sumptuous bathroom. We sat on our deck, thinking how damn lucky we are. Service is still learning, but well-meaning. They are there with smiles, but they are naive. The food at Ville de Mont is not good, although we ate several meals at the resort because we wanted to avoid Sapa Town. Unfortunately, chefs in Vietnam need to study cooking techniques from other countries, and it’s difficult getting a travel passport. Thus, we ordered simple food. I also had a massage at Ville de Mont that was rather mediocre, but it was what I expected. Surprisingly, all pricing at Ville de Mont is high, but that view is worth a million bucks. I would love to return to the Ville de Mont Mountain Resort. Because of my age, that will probably be an impossibility. I will always cherish my memory.
