I was on the Via de la plata pilgrimage and stayed here for one night after being collected from a bar called A Taberna do Leiro in Villar de Barrio by Alexandro. It’s about 7km away from their lovely Casa Rural. I was overjoyed when Elisa offered me the choice of a bathroom with a bath or one with a shower. I was missing the luxury of having a bath after a 19.25km hike. Casa do Mosteiro takes its name from the ruins of the next door Monastery, which sadly is locked up so you can’t visit it. The bedroom and bathroom had everything you could need and the only thing I could have done with is some heating in the rooms as the walls are stone and after a long hike your body cools down a lot. The meal was excellent and it was a lovely quiet place to stay. I enjoyed the breakfast with another guest in their little bar and there was such a fabulous feast, best breakfast on the Camino! Despite showing the monastery to most of the guests, Elisa still wanted to show me around it. The trouble was it was so overgrown with weeds that it was difficult to see it. I hope the local Mayor realises what a wonderful opportunity it would be to show it off and help the local economy, it looks amazing from a distance. As other reviewers have said it felt like home and Elisa and Alexandro were very welcoming.
