Mount Irvine Bay Resort

Within minutes from the airport, you arrive to be greeted by the therapeutic pond, lush green trees and the most pleasant staff. Check in was a breeze and we were helped to our room by a very pleasant gentleman who made sure to give us some background on the historic grounds the hotel lay on. The room was equipped with all the amenities you can expect to need and the wife sure loved the coffee station in our room. The hotel ground provided a great opportunity for sunset family walks under the decades old trees. My two year old surely got the better of us on these walks lol The large pool with poolside bar provided the true “vacation feel” and the scenic Mt Irvine private beach embraced you with its pristine white sands and crystal clear waters. All in all great experience and I’d definitely recommend it for all!

What a gem! This was our first visit to Tobago, having previously visited Barbados and Mexico. Mount Irvine Bay Resort was exactly what we wanted. It is spacious, with modern rooms and a stunning little beach. There were few guests about, which was a welcome change from the crowded all-inclusives we've stayed in elsewhere. The staff were lovely and told us all about the history of the resort - apparently it used to be a sugar plantation. I had a relaxing massage at the spa and was interested to learn that the spa building was the former sugar factory. I cannot praise the breakfast staff enough. They got to know us over the seven days we stayed there and kept a table especially for us. Thank you Dornette! We loved the historic feel of the place and the attentive staff. And the location was convenient for visiting other beaches and points of interest. We hope to go back to Tobago again.

Where to start well firstly if you read our other reviews you will see we very rarely complain . So lets begin myself and my wife booked this resort through British airways and was advertised as a 4/5* hotel with rooms ranging from standard, superior and executive we opted for the superior as we wanted to treat ourselves after a horrendous year,they also stated swim up pool bar and other bars open at different times throughout the day so we thought this is the p!ace for us. We arrived during a thunder storm and were soaked and very tired no one can help the weather but a hand towel and a drink waiting would have been nice nothing but the receptionist giving us our room key and I forming us we could not use the pool for two days as they were having a wedding fair and if we wished to join in it would cost 200ttds each about 25quid each ...we were then taken to our room which was on the upper floors as my wife has mobility problems we booked a ground floor room as she could not manage the stairs( no lifts ) fair enough to them they found a ground floor room but it was standard bed dressing table and a wardrobe no walk in shower ,We did tell them we had booked and paid for a superior room. We then decide to have a bite to eat before bed we went to the restaurant were there was just one other couple ,we asked for the menu and were told they did not have one and the choices were either grilled chicken breast or catch of the day both served with potatoes and veg , I had the fish which was supposed to be king fish and my wife had chicken 1 beer and 2 bottles of water the fish was just okay nothing special and the chicken dish was inedible overcooked and tasteless and at a cost of 56 pounds . To tired to argue we went to bed the wedding fair went very well and we attended for free after a discussion with management. The problems really started on the Sunday when we went to the pool after breakfast enjoying the sun and relaxing reading by the pool .. It was now about 1130 am and we fancied a drink not alcohol just a coke or sprite or water anyway no bar staff so went to reception when stated someone would be with us shortly .A staff member turned up my wife being polite said good morning what's your name as you do when on holiday ..he was obviously not happy at being asked to work ...he snapped at my wife in a raised voice stated that names were irrelevant so what do you want.At this I told him to go away we wanted nothing from him and not to speak to my wife like that again.After this encounter we decided to go to the beach for the rest of the day so we went to Pigeon point excellent beach and services although you have to pay entrance fee and for the sunbeds and umbrellas after a great day we headed back to the hotel for a shower and change for evening meal . My wife went for a shower 1 st only to find that the water had been turned off on asking reception we were informed that they had to ration the water due to a problem with the local water compan

We just returned from a work trip at Mount Irvine and it was a quiet, lovely spot. The beach is beautiful, clean and all sand. Nice chairs and umbrellas at the beach and pool. Good food and lovely staff. Joel at the pool bar was so friendly, attentive and went above and beyond. He made our stay extra special! You can tell they’re making updates here and there throughout the resort which will be great. But if you’re going for a relaxing, quiet stay then I highly recommend.

We booked this holiday through British Airways (in their sale). We were very disappointed with the place. The golf course (one of the reasons we went) had been closed for 4 years !!. The hotel in general was quite rundown. The cottages in the grounds were very dilapidated and overgrown with bushes, many with broken or missing windows and inside ( my friend thought she would have a nose about ) the sinks were smashed off the wall and doors missing. All the facilities were not open or very understaffed. At 1 point my friend and myself were the only people staying at the hotel. It also transpired that many of the staff had not been paid for some time. I must admit the staff in general were very good (especially under the circumstances) Iam not sure BA had done due diligence checks here for some time. I'm sure they would not want to be associated with a company that does not pay their workers wages !! (especially in these days of anti slavery laws etc) also advertising things that were indeed untrue (golf course) It seemed the only place food was available (other than at breakfast time) was at the beach bar, which again was staffed with very helpful and friendly staff. On our second day we went to the beach bar for lunch, but were told there wasn't any food to sell as it was catering for a private function !!! On another point 4 days before we were due to go home, it seems the water had been cut off ! each time we wanted to shower, go to the loo etc we had to go to the reception and ask them to turn our water supply on, which they did for about 15 minutes then it went off !! When you google the hotel and its past, it would seem it was a very popular place and many events and films were made there. Its a shame because in its heyday it must have been lovely. Perhaps another victim of the "pandemic" of 2020

Stayed for a week 20-27 September. Great staff. The hotel was basically empty, and this really impacted the week. It was a good job that we were there with friends and could get out and about. The hotel bar was never open. The pool bar was open, and staffed by Joel, who was fantastic. The pool was great, huge and a good temperature. Breakfast was nice. Had lunch a few times. Unsure if the restaurant was open in the evening as never went. Beach that was for the hotel was nice, but the restaurant down there only had 2 things on the food menu available. Its such a shame this hotel is essentially going to waste with so few visitors (apart from weddings/events) as it needs more people. The beds were comfy. The furniture in the room badly needs upgrading as they are old and stiff. The TV didn't work. The Wi-Fi is simply not strong enough to reach the rooms, pool or restaurant. Our friend got a booster box, but it still didn't reach our room. When I went to ask, it was the only box in the whole hotel - we were left without unless we sat in reception. The fridge in the refurbed room is way too small. Air con was excellent. You 100% need a car to get anywhere from this hotel unless you enjoy walks of over 30 mins to get to somewhere busy. There is an air of sadness for me at this hotel, it has great history and deserves to be stand out. I did visit 3 other hotels which were the same - lacking people!! Tobago prices - not much different to London really for cocktails and some food. Pigeon Point is an absolute MUST if you do go.
