Premier Inn Paignton (Goodrington Sands)

Great service at hotel from staff. Room was excellent, clean and great sea-view. Breakfast buffet is recommended, the day it was cooked to order was disappointing and not value for money. Have stayed here many times, great position and great staff both friendly and extremely helpful. My only gripe is the £7.50 per night car parking charge, would have expected a discounted rate as staying at hotel.

We love this hotel it’s an excellent location right by the beach but I suggest you don’t have dinner !!! Queuing system at the bar is not working as in you choose what you want off the menu but as we found out items eg basic chicken are out of stock prawn starters etc then when you go and check what else to order you have to queue again !!! Queued twice over 10 people each time - they should inform people before they get to the counter . Avoid !!!

The hotel is very run down, as soon as we entered reception there was a terrible smell, as though they had tried to clean the carpets but had been left damp. The room was cleaned to a good standard but again smelt like a charity shop… and very hard to ignore, the carpets really need re doing, the smell in the room was not pleasant. We actually checked out early and left for another hotel. Unless your expectations are extremely low avoid the restaurant attached to the hotel. The waitresses spent most of their time in the kitchen, empty tables were left over flowing with dirty plates and glasses, you have to order at the bar which was so busy my husband spent up to 15-20 minutes there each time we wanted more drinks. The decor again is in a very distressed state, the paint work the carpet and even the chairs we sat on, each one of them had the faux leather ripped off of them. Even our 5 year old son commented on how “scruffy” the restaurant was. We made the right decision by leaving early and enjoyed the remainder of our time away at a different hotel. Some money needs to be spent on this premiere inn as it is in a very poor state. We know not to return to this particular hotel.

A very nice location right on the seafront, the walk to the town and pier is about 20 minutes, worth thinking about if mobility is an issue. On arrival there was parking right outside, I imagine I'm high season this could become limited however, you can come and go in your car for the duration of your stay and pay on departure, the car park is ANPR operated. We were greeted at reception by Emma who was very pleasant and helpful, we aren't familiar with the area and she even left the reception to act as a guide and direct is to the pathway to the town. We had a very spacious family room (111) at the front with a seaview, breakfast is served until 11am and was very good, a wide selection to choose from, fried breakfast was in form of help yourself buffet which was all nicely cooked and hot. A minor criticism that the building could do with a little TLC inside and out. Also we arrived on a Friday and spent the day in Paignton on the seafront and returned after an evening meal in town, we returned to our rooms and changed, headed downstairs to the bar area (Brewers Fayre incorporated into the Inn) around 9pm to be told last orders is 9:45. There isn't anywhere within a short walk if you want a drink after this time, we weren't looking to stay up all night but a drink until maybe 10:30 would not seem unreasonable. Small criticisms aside it wouldn't put us off staying again as the good points certainly outweigh those slight faults.

I enjoyed my stay at Goodrington sands. The room was clean and I had the sea view I’d booked. There were no USB sockets though. My only complaints would be - At Breakfast there were no Vegetarian sausages, for the duration of my stay, even though they were on the menu. The evening meal was ruined by some Extremely loud guests. At no point did any member of staff ask them to politely keep the volume down a little, out of respect for the other guests. In consequence, I finished my meal quickly and gave the dessert a miss (a shame because I had been looking forward to it). I made other arrangements for the rest of my stay to avoid any chance of a reoccurrence.

We spent 2 nights here booked with a free breakfast offer. We paid for a sea view too as it was only £9 and having experienced it it was definitely worth it to us. Our room 114 looked straight out to sea. All staff in hotel and pub were friendly and helpful. Double bed was comfortable and whole room was clean. Some small signs of wear and tear on the furniture but plenty of plugs and a decent size tv. WiFi was slow but adequate for our needs. Kettle and tea and coffee provided in the room with refills available at reception all the time. Shower was good and bottles of body wash and hand soap were attached to the wall in the bathroom. Nice big bath towels provided. Breakfast was in the pub next door accessed directly from the hotel. As it was quiet the hot breakfast was cooked to order so was lovely and fresh but veggie sausages were not available both days which was disappointing. Nice selection of everything else and it was all good. As it was out of season we had no trouble parking outside the hotel and it was £7 per night which I thought was reasonable. Location is great as it’s right by the beach but it is a bit of a walk to get into the nearest town.
