The Malt Shovel Inn

Absolutely disgusting behaviour by the property. I booked one room for a colleague for arrival the night before me and they forgot to leave keys out for him. He had to wait for over an hour for somebody to turn up and let him in. I arrived the day after to be told that my room wasn't available as it hadn't been cleaned. I asked if it could be cleaned so I could check in and was told no. I even offered to change the sheets myself so I could sleep there (all other hotels nearby were full or asking crazy money to stay) but was told they would have to cancel the booking with no care about where I would stay or a further reimbursement to cover the additional cost.

We travelled nearly two hours for friends wedding reception and had booked this back in May 23 for Oct 23. I had spoken with them 2 or 3 times over the months and never been informed they were closing. When my self, my husband and 4 other friends arrived the place was shut down and locked up with no notice and no correspondance and we were stranded in a place we did not know with no accomodation and out of pocket. Would definitely not recommend this place even if they do reopen the communication is shocking

Property was closed and despite booking in May nobody emailed to let us know. Luckily a farm down the road was open and stayed there but had to pay out twice. Ridiculous!

Inside the property was lovely, the staff were fantastic the only criticism we felt that the landscaping/gardens needed some TLC

Quiet country setting. Bedrooms in single storey out buildings so relatively cool in summer. Friendly staff. Good parking. Good tvs and wifi.

Excellent location and in our opinion a little gem. Will definitely return as we visit Somerset quite regularly. A great variety of food and real ales. You have to try the locally brewed KICKING GOAT CIDER a great refreshing alternative to the National Ciders. Thanks Malty guys for our stay, see you soon JD

Stayed at the Malt Shovel for 2 nights when visiting Steart Marshes and Cannington. Room was clean, tidy and comfortable. Food on offer or at least what we had, steaks were very good.

If I hadn't prepaid, I'd have refused the room and gone elsewhere. It smelt overwhelmingly damp. It was a very depressing arrival. I had to ask for towels. To air the room I had the heat on all evening (in July!). The bed felt damp when I pulled back the duvet: it took a while to get rid of the smell, and rather longer to make the bed feel like I'd want to get into it. The room had very little privacy, its large window looking straight onto the children's play area, with no net or screen. I retreated to my room but it was noisy - kids were being kids in the play area. I had to have the window open to air the place, so the noise almost drowned out the TV. About the TV: it had no remote control. But then, it had no aerial cable either. I'm not sure what it was there for. Happily I carried a WiFi TV stick, so I was able to watch Netflix. I booked by following the link on the pub;s website, which took me to *******. Beguiled by the description there of "bed and breakfast" I booked, only to learn on arrival that no breakfast was being served. Disappointing: I was expecting it to be included in the price I'd paid.

A Lovely Pub and very friendly staff but unfortunately no facilities for breakfast. Fortunately the bar made directed to a lovely café just 2 mins away
