Hotel in zona Playa Monte Rio, Tashkent

Non si può fare il piacere di vivere qui per la qualità dell'hotel! Questo posto è un reliquio di lusso e una splendida reliquia della Guerra Fría! I arrived late in the evening and departed early in the morning. I just needed three things. A pick-up from the airport, one night sleep and hearty breakfast. Out of these, the hotel succeeded in later two. (And the breakfast is really delicious.) But the hotel failed in the task to pick me up from the airport. Despite telling them multiple times I was arriving at the domestic terminal, they waited for me at the international terminal. Meaning I had to find myself a new taxi and then I spent about 5 USD on international calls trying to explain the situation.

Dopo aver viaggiato in Cina, sono stato sollevato nel notare che le persone dell'hotel parlano inglese (grazie Haselbeck). La camera è pulita e si trova proprio dietro la reception, a livello della strada. Dato che le finestre si sono aperte, ho chiesto ad Haselbeck della situazione della criminalità e lui ha riso, affermando che questo non accade in Uzbekistan. La colazione era molto buona, con affettati, uova, cereali, biscotti, torte, tè, caffè e blynis. Mentre facevo colazione ho parlato con una persona indiana che lavorava a Tashkent di come si sposta, dato che la metropolitana è a circa 1600 metri di distanza. Ha riso e mi ha detto di usare Yandex Go e ordinare i taxi. Ottima scoperta! Sono davvero economici.

This was our first visit to Uzbekistan with an open mind on what we would end up doing in Tashkent. We took the safer bet by starting our country tour with the Marriott brand we know well. We were not disappointed! This is a well-run, spacious, clean hotel and was an ideal choice to begin with. Predictably, the décor is totally “Marriott!”, so lacks a Central Asian feel to it, but that is as the brand dictates. In the kitchen they make up for that with an excellent range of menu items that spans great local Uzbeki dishes and high-quality international cuisine. There is clearly a lot of pride in the kitchen shown by the attention given to good presentation. The breakfast buffet is good too. It would be good if the hotel made more effort to promote Uzbek wines at the Lobby Bar, rather than focus on the more expensive international ones. In the restaurant, there is only a limited choice of local wine compared to other places and no wine at all in the 8th Floor bar. These are all minor quibbles though. It is the attitude of the staff that makes this hotel work best. Everyone is keen to give a good professional impression in each of their roles. The reception and restaurant staff were without exception universally polite, efficient and friendly. We were ever so thankful to Shuhrat at the front desk who got us well-organised from the start with a local SIM card, dealing with money and making helpful suggestions on how to tackle Tashkent and then organise the rest of our stay not only in Tashkent buy beyond. He is soft-spoken and gracious and a good listener. He could read our preferences quickly. On our return, it was Shuhrat who organised a very good driver/guide to visit the mountains and encouraged us to take a dip to go to the beach on Lake Charvak and enjoy a dip there. A big thank you to everyone at the Tashkent Courtyard for helping to make this one of the best exploratory vacations we ever had.

The check in process late at night was smooth and simple. The breakfast at the hotel in the morning was amazing. Then lastly the checkout for our overnight stay went quickly and smoothly as well. The amenities were great and the room was clean and comfortable as well.

The Simma Hotel is a good choice, whether for business or personal visit, for people whose priority is to have great spa facilities, rather to be close to the center of town and the touristic sights. The drive into town averages around 20-25 minutes and of course the hotel can assist with calling a taxi, the reception staff is a great group of people, always trying to be helpful with smiles on their faces. Some of the rooms are very large with twin beds, others a bit smaller but generally all very comfortable in size. Most bathrooms have baths for long soaks at the end of the work day. The spa is divided into two identical halves for women and men. The breakfast is a hard-to-resist buffet offer of sweets but also some cold cuts, cheeses and freshly prepared omelettes. Dinner is also worth a try here as the food is rather delicious and often comes with some musical entertainment. I would consider returning for a large meeting where the location is secondary but would not choose this hotel when wanting to enjoy the sights of Tashkent as a tourist.
