Lowry Park zoo is an amazing zoo. The aquarium in Tarpon Springs is very close by but there is also Clearwater Aquarium and The Tampa Aquarium. St. Pete pier has a splash pad, a small beach and a great playground. The Museum of Science and Industry is great for kids in Tampa.
