I travel extensively through Africa for business and am always pleased when I find a hotel that meets all of my personal wants. The Calypso has fantastic air conditioning in the guest rooms. I rate it a 10/10 and typically this is my largest complaint with the rooms I stay in. But the staff at this hotel is so good that it would still rate high with me even if the air con was not so good. Everyone is friendly and helpful at the hotel. The food is always good, the spa is excellent and good at what they do. But I would like to specifically recognize the waitstaff in the restaurant. They are all wonderful and I feel like I am among friends when I am there. That is a treat for someone that travels and spends extended time at a hotel. I look forward to the many business trips I will make to the Calypso in the next 2 years!

Beautifully appointed hotel with amazing views in a quiet area of town. Attentive staff members, pristine rooms and blissfully hot showers after many hours on dusty roads. The dinner, breakfast and the boxed lunch were just okay. WiFi is strong in the common areas. There's an extra charge to run the A/C or the heating unit.

Spacious rooms but the bed mattress and pillows are well past their prime! The hotel is in a quiet location, the service was very good from the staff. The restaurant has an indoor and outdoor seating area, food was good.

Been the place of choice of all my colleagues that came to Toamasina for business. Rooms are very good, service is great and the food is excellent. Well worth a stopover when anyone is considering to visit Toamasina for a time. Management (Ron) is very involved with all the visitors and always considering the views, comments and suggestions of visitors to ensure satisfaction and improvements for the future.

Post pandemic travel in Madagascar is often uncertain, with some facilities showing decline with limited tourism, but this place is an exception. What it lacks, strangely, are sea views. Rooms were clean with contemporary furnishing and bathroom/shower designs. Service was really lovely, especially on the dining room/bar terrace which overlooks a quiet street. The much lauded Ivan is sadly gone, but Iando and his young colleagues were superb at managing a lively evening convergence of diverse groups, local and foreign. Good food and wine, not over-priced. The spinach/lentil accompaniment was a rare departure from ubiquitous legumes sautee. My third floor room was above the terrace and reception, which can get noisy, so I switched to a room at the rear of the building. What a rare treat to have a working screen door to small terrace, so mosquito nets and air conditioning at night were not necessary! WiFi in room was fine. The beach and Shoprite are a short walk or rickshaw journey away. I wouldn't walk after dark, but otherwise felt both safe and welcomed as a solo woman traveller.

Restaurant staff was amazing but reception was tepid. I was surprised not to find a hair dryer in the room of a ****star hotel.

Première impression après avoir gravi les marches du Calypso, c'est le manque d'espace du lobby. Seulement quelques fauteuils et un canapé placés dans un coin pour patienter pendant le rapide check in. Serviettes rafraîchissantes et cocktail de bienvenue en guise d'accueil. La chambre initialement attribuée nous a quelque peu refroidi car vue donnant sur une façade de l'établissement. En ni une ni deux, le directeur nous fait visiter d'autres chambres. Finalement la 415 au 4ème étage avec sa vue panoramique fait l'unanimité. Elle est vaste, lumineuse et bien équipée, avec balcon, grande terrasse, bonne literie, SDB avec double vasque, douche italienne et baignoire balnéo (j'ai renoncé au balnéo, l'eau du robinet n'étant pas très nette à Tamatave). Un petit bémol concernant la clim centralisée qui n'est pas réglable. Le petit déjeuner en buffet est correct et le restaurant est très bien tenu. Le personnel est tellement réactif, à se demander si certains employés ont le pouvoir de lire dans nos pensées. En conclusion : séjour très agréable au Calypso aidé en cela par le professionnalisme de son staff et ce n'est pas une sinécure surtout à Madagascar. Une suggestion pour parfaire le tableau mettre à disposition une machine à dosettes de café.
