Black Lion

Window was loose and no lock ,my husbands request,for a wedge or screwdrivers so jammed a couple of screwdrivers in the side ,to try and secure window.as manager came up with nothing .so easy access’s from the flat roof outside ,as we found a roofer had been accessing while we were there. Told the manager about the window not locking,he asked in an abrupt manner,what do you want me to do about it,I don’t have another room.Rock band in pub could have been in our room it was so noisy. Room was vibrating too. Due to the band and customers.noise from taps and toilet from other rooms and our room to ,was the noisiest water system I have ever heard ,almost like a nematic drill.carpets stained and worn.NIGHTMARE STAY.only wish I could upload the video of the noise from the band and water . WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.

Clean, tidy and value for money. If you're looking to avoid chain hotels and want to have access to London via Surbiton's mainline station then this is an excellent location. The Black Lion doesn't put on airs and graces, it offers a warm welcome, great bar and food later in the day along with a garden to relax in or for those that like to smoke. It's an older pub so don't think you're going to arrive to manicured concrete and glass however, the rooms have been refurbished and it's v clean and tidy. If you're someone with mobility issues the stairs to the room won't work for you, otherwise they lead to a selection of rooms that work for business travellers, families and just those seeking a great place as a base to explore London easily. You'll even have access to a rather good coffee machine downstairs in the bar for those who need an additional caffeine hit during their stay. Breakfast isn't offered, but there's plenty of cafés and eateries within walking distance with a wide variety of menus to suit most tastes. You can eat later in the day at the Black Lion from their pub menu, so options abound. Mark and his team are welcoming and helpful, great example of a thriving pub that's adapted to the modern economy to look after locals and visitors.
